It was the nights when she could feel it most. The absence of someone she could not recall, a heaviness that pulled her down into a dull melancholy. The feeling of a longing for an unknown that she could swear was intimately entwined with her existence. Why else would the bed feel so empty, so lonely?
Often she would wake with an arm reaching across the sheets, gently thumbing the pillow. "Good morning," mumbled to the empty space where someone should be.
Who? She couldn't recall.
She could feel them in the form of foggy impressions -- warm smiles, loving touches, soft and sincere words. The feeling of being entirely safe in the embrace of the one you cherish.
"I love you."
Just kidding! It was just a nightmare. Eiko awakens to find her husband cuddling her in bed. A bouquet sits on her nightstand with a note: "Beloved. When you wake, we will spend all day doing whatever you like, and feast upon whatever you like. Today is dedicated to you, as I will dedicate myself to you for the rest of our lives. Feel free to wake me whenever you want. I'm quite tired from last night's activities. ;) Love, Aidan"
She breathes out a sigh of relief, pulse steadying as she settles back down. Long ago Aidan had learned she hates when he causes a big fuss for her birthday. He'd be a fool to attempt such a stunt nowadays -- thankfully t'was just a dreamed up scene, something she needn't actually endure.
Eiko turns to face her cuddly King, a hand gently brushing away stray bangs that fall across his face. Ever so carefully she lays a delicate kiss upon his forehead, lingering a moment as she thumbs his cheek.
Oh so, so, quietly, she whispers to him.
"You're the best gift I could receive... I wouldn't mind some kupo nut cookies though." And with that she snuggles even closer to him, and falls back to sleep, this time dreaming of much cozier things.
Much like the parade from Aladdin, Aidan Pyralis bursts into his beloved's room with a plethora of gifts carried on the backs of servants and well trained pets! And, wrapped in naught but layers of fine white silk, and many gold bangles, he glides forward from amidst the cacophany and lays himself dramatically across her lap as she rouses in bed. "MY DARLING FUTURE WIFE! PLEASE JOIN ME ON A ROMANTIC GETAWAY IN CELEBRATION OF YOUR BIRTH!"
"AIDAN, BY THE GODS HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU TO STOP WITH THIS NONSENSE!?!" Her limbs flail as she struggles to shove the nearly naked Aidan off of herself. As she glances around the room she grows mortified. There are so many people in the room how did they all squeeze in here? Was that a zaghnol with ribbons in its mane?? WhY ARE THEY ALL SEEING HER IN HER NIGHT DRESS THIS IS SO EMBARASSING!
With one final push she is able to knock Aidan off the bed -- but he's all tangled up in the blankets and she falls right on top of him.
"Oh, ho? Darling, in front of all these people? Really?"
