The off-site show on the grand ballroom of The Leela Palace here on Friday, stood still for some time when models started walking on the runway in spectacular ensembles like embellished lehengas having 3D flowers stitched to it, palazzos, sequined jackets, lengthy trailed anarkali’s to pant sarees — all paired with statement jewelry items consisting of treasured stones like emerald, diamonds and rubies with a gold base.

Using fabrics like organza and georgette, Khanna collection used a myriad of hues such as white, beige, gold, salmon pink, celadon green, fiery red, black and yellow. The gathering additionally noticed a large use of heavy gildings, sequined work, hand weaves and complex work of gold embroidery on the silhouettes. With common numbers by legendary singers Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra taking part in and the runway decked up with trees and real live models — the show left the visitors for wanting more.

Asked about having real live models as decor, Khanna stated: “Basically, the idea was that these people were at a party and the time just stood still”.

The glamorous front row with friends of the designer – Shabana Azmi, Pernia Qureshi and Bhumi Pednekar is all set for Epic Love at the first sight.

Ethereal beauties make the much-awaited appearance on the runway – each step choreographed to the rustic beat. A vintage folklore sets into motion as the models sashay in. Hair fastened in tightly plaited braids and heavily hypnotic eyes highlighted in pink and burnt orange lend a young gypsy look.

  Adorned in heirloom-like pieces from Anita Dongre’s jadau jewellery label Pinkcity and antique silver pieces from the Anita Dongre label add to the folkish charm of the show. Stunning maang-tikas, large nose rings, intricate haath phools, chunky chokers and necklaces ornate the outfits.

Epic Love opens on a free-spirited, lighter note with chintz-inspired printed lehengas that are teamed with Bohemian blouses. The designer’s signature gotapatti work breathes life onto the prints. The classic Indian styles blend seamlessly with contemporary long, column tabards which give the wearer a beautiful illusion of height. The lean, sleek silhouettes bring modern relevance into bridal couture. The beauty of this collection lies in its versatility – the Bohemian gypsy tops can be paired with a printed lehenga just as beautifully as it would go with a pair of silk pants. Fringe-finished sarees with tie-up tops that wrap around the drape add a contemporary twist to the classic saree.

Moving gradually on to a regal palette, jewel-toned solids in rich wine, orange and the classic reds, creams and golds take center stage. Gotapatti work is seen across the collection – first on the prints and then teamed with thread work. The monotonal ensembles of the collection gives Epic Love a beautiful end with a promise to brides for beautiful new beginnings…

Lissa appears to glaze over slightly at the question, giving it a good deal of thought “Blood magic is such a broad term. The idea of using blood in replace of one’s mana supply is quite pragmatic in a battle situation. It’s all around, you can use your own or an enemy’s. It cannot be silenced or interrupted because it doesn’t require mana.”

“It’s understandable that it’s a last resort in a fit of desperation for a mage. That’s not to say it’s a moral choice, then again, neither is using it to track and bind mages to circles either. Or the fact that there is often a set of books on blood magic the circle. Tempting Apprentices with knowledge then declaring ‘I told you so’ when they use it as their situation dictates.”

Isolde snorts like it’s an easy question, one she’s answered more than once. “I spent some time in Starkhaven smuggling lyrium and after the job we all go retire for drinks. Which is great, because god smuggling is often the most dull ass work you’ll ever do. So I find me a lad and after the first bout he asks me if he could try something, and y’know I’m down because anyone who can eat me out for longer than an hour deserves a ‘lets try something different pass’. So he put me in a sack, which he then tied to the roof railing, cut a hole in the bottom of the bag and had sex with me while I swung in a sack.”

2015 couture collection

  Words fall short in describing the aura of a masterpiece.To describe couturier Varun Bahl’s show last night Splendour and visually appealing are the perfect words. The designer named his collection ‘Aurum’ and it was inspired by flowers.

  Designer Monisha Jaising opted for a jersey lehenga and a ganji top for her show stopper Kirti Sanon, giving a modern top style to the highly elegant and traditional Indian bridal wear.
