amelia j . pond was a dream - thing . rose saw her there often . she would sometimes be older , sometimes younger , sometimes in london , sometimes in the tardis . always laughing , always sun - tanned and smiling . even when they first met , a million million lifetimes ago , rose had been sure she already knew her : i feel like i’ve met you somewhere . amy made herself a home in rose’s dreams in preparation for their meeting –– this seemed to be a skill of hers . or maybe memories of her echoed back to rose through the time vortex , or maybe it was just deja vu . ( another skill of amy’s . ) this is all to say that rose thought , perhaps , she was dreaming now .
because there she was : laughing , sun - tanned , smiling . completely beautiful ; completely impossible . rose’s second thought , upon determining she was probably awake , was i’m on the wrong earth . it was amelia , sure , but not her amelia . for one thing , her amelia was decidedly a twenty - first - century girl . ( right ? ) rose had just taken a wrong turn , landed a universe over . it happened more often than she’d care to admit . her team had built a wonderfully impressive dimension cannon , but time travel was an art ––– not a science . it responded to emotion , it listened to rose’s thoughts . it felt an ache for amy in her heart , and brought her as close as it could . blessed thing , really .
she stared , and not subtly , at this american woman walking around with amelia’s face . ha ! lucky her . funny thing , she carried herself like amy . that graceful way . oh , she wished it really was her . rose’s mind wandered to a fantasy : she’d call out to this woman ––– oi ! leadworth ! –––– and the woman would spin on her heel , and grin , and say rose , and run to her . because she’d be amy . her amy . it was a nice fantasy . but rose knew better . she didn’t get a fairytale ending , she’d probably never see her amy again . at least , not outside of her dreams . she should leave . there was no use in wandering around this universe , she’d only cause problems by being here . she should leave . she should leave .
she should leave . buuuuuuut she won’t . amelia’s doppleganger turns to walk out of the station , and suddenly rose has to know . WHAT IF IT’S HER –––– WHAT IF SHE TURNS DOWN 5TH AVENUE AND YOU NEVER SEE HER AGAIN . she pushes off the wall , and runs forward . somehow a tearful cry of “ POND ! ” escapes her mouth before she can stop herself . she stops short . fuck . she should leave .
