Cornhenge…every year, He Who Walks Behind The Rows must be appeased, just like any of the old gods. as summer ends (seriously, who am i kidding, we’ve got 90F for at least the next week! send ice, am slowly melting) the urgency for ritual and reverence becomes more apparent and we trek to the sacred place to leave our offerings for a bountiful harvest. heh…not so much…that’s just the musings of a brain which has inhaled way too much corn pollen these past few months… ”Field of Corn” is an art instillation in Dublin, Ohio consisting of 109 concrete ears of corn which stand approximately 7 feet high; a tribute to a local farmer who helped develop corn hybridization and used to farm this land. soon after completion in 1994, it became a local joke, as it portrayed giant inedible food that was funded with public tax dollars. plus the fact that it’s located in the middle of an affluent suburb surrounded by corporate offices and upscale strip malls…it’s really strange. the juxtaposition. the irony. people aren’t the smartest sometimes and art doesn’t have to make sense. tax money though…is wasted on worse things every day. ! i hugged an ear, of course, hoping to hear a whisper in my own of gratitude for remembering the Old One, but alas, there was nothing but silence, He doesn’t belong here in suburbia…i know the feeling…
