If I draw things from books for my competitive exam, does that qualify as studying?

As I announced in late April, I’ve been devoting myself to academic work, and have thus been virtually absent from Tumblr. So here is a little summary of what I’ve been up to:

I handed in my 2nd year Master’s thesis ten days ago and I will be defending it next Monday (I have a pit in my stomach just typing out those words).

Thankfully, I’ve been busy enough that I haven’t had time to dwell too much on this stressful thought. This week I was at a seminar in Germany about utopia and dystopia and had the pleasure to attend a fascination lecture/workshop on feminist dystopia.

In other exciting/anxiety-inducing news: next Thursday I’ll be attending another seminar --this time organized by my university-- at which I will be giving a presentation on the use of language in animal rights activism).

After that the academic year is at last over and I will get a couple weeks of vacation before I have to start the mandatory reading for the competitive exam (’agrégation’) I’ll be taking next year.

It’s Easter and my birthday week end but alas what I have for you is neither chocolate nor a present. As some may have noticed, I haven’t posted in the past few days and probably won’t for a while as I am extremely busy. 

I have only two months before I need to hand in my second year’s Master thesis, then prepare to defend it before a jury on July 1st and three days later, I have to present a different paper at a research conference. And finally afterwards, I’m done with the school year (and my Master’s degree) and I’m off to go enjoy my holiday on a hiking trip with my parents (though it will still be a busy summer as I am preparing the English “agrégation” (a notoriously difficult competitive exam to become a teacher/be able to do a thesis) and need to read the seven books for the literature program (and God knows how many more for the other subjects).

So anyway, I’m not saying I won’t post anything in th meantime, but I’m probably not going to be around here much until late July/August.
