     HELL’S MOUTH GAPES  tauntingly above her, all blades & teeth & suffocating smoke.  the sweltering heat is a pervasive breath on the back of marguerite’s neck, forcing tangled hair to cling heavy to her exposed skin.  like a dream, the strange environment seems to bow before the presence of a singular being.  gnashing maws & uprooted trees distort around  HER  might.

     she believed in heaven when she was still alive  ——  really,  truly  alive.  though she was never the most devout & often failed to lug her family to weekly service, marguerite always kept a sliver of faith tucked beneath her pillow.  she prayed on holidays & considered herself a good samaritan until the darkness crept in.  then, the only god she honored was the disease that took her family.

     the sweetest voice lures marguerite out from her own memories, snapping her vision back to a blinding halo.  ruby - red lips tempt like wine, speaking of beginnings & destruction as if they were the same.  spoken in that tone, marguerite is nearly willing to believe that they are.
