“I hate the water. I hate the water. I hate to the water.” Agnarr growled quietly to himself as the boat rocked against the waves. “Fuck fuck fuck–” He grunted then said a silent prayer to Thor, digging the sharp end of his crutch into the deck of the ship.
He couldn’t have gotten off the damned thing faster, willing his legs to move despite the deep ache in them. He tugged at the collar around his neck, groaning at the scratchy feeling. Agnarr then let his hand fall with a huff and he tugged his bag strap up then started towards the cells, his unique crutch and leg braces making a metallic CHUNK sound with each step.
Juniper was walking out of the school, after having gotten permission to hire some people to work with her at the theater- sure she was the manager, but the school still owned it, so she was going to be changing the marquee to say she was now accepting applications when she nearly ran into a guy using a crutch. “Oh-” she jumped back. “Sorry!” she hadn’t touched him, but she still apologized for the quick movement in case it startled him or made him jump, not wanting to startle him with her quick movement. “I didn’t bump you or anything did I?”

“I hate the water. I hate the water. I hate the water.” Agnarr growled quietly to himself as the boat rocked against the waves.
Dhani was out for his usual beach run, watching the boat that brought in passengers from the mainland with the airport. Even from this far off he recognized the crutch using Nordic (he thought) scowling dirty blond. He knew he’d be heading towards the cells, most likely and Dhani headed off a path off the beach to intercept.
“Aggie! You’re back!” Dhani was a little out of breath, now waiting for Agnarr at the dorm. He moved forward, giving the man a hug, and took his bag so his friend might manage a little easier. “Here, let me help.”
[ Send “You’re not going anywhere” for my muse’s reaction to yours grabbing their wrist. ]
@agnarr-frey
“You’re not going anywhere.”
“Aggie,” Dhani spoke with regret, but turned back to the other boy, having started his attempt to leave. He didn’t want to. Agnarr had been gone for so long and Dhani had missed him so much. He had a fierceness and protective quality about him, despite his disability, or perhaps amplified because of it. Dhani found that immensely attractive. And those damn eyes. They were really beautiful and so intense.
“I can’t,” Dhani said softly, but kissed the boy again, not bothering to move off Agnarr’s lap, which he loved so much how Agnarr liked him to sit there, or to slip his wrist from Agnarr’s grasp.
Agnarr moved off of the boat, letting out a low groan and closing his eyes. He rested on his crutch for a moment, trying to settle his rolling stomach. He really fucking hated water. Open water… Dhani had tried teaching him to swim once – he didn’t remember much of it, but there was a pool. With a bottom. That he could see. That made it a little easier. Plus, Dhani was with him, helping him the whole time. A ship on the ocean was much different… and much more terrifying. If something were to happen on that damned boat, Gods forbid… He was fucked. He wasn’t fond of this place, not in the slightest… but anywhere was better than that fucking boat.
As they arrived on the island… something felt off to Agnarr, something he couldn’t quite explain. He remembered the island… the school and even the people, but he wasn’t entirely sure why he had this sense of foreboding. Not until he stepped onto the dock and the memories came rushing back, things about the Institute that he didn’t remember at all. He had been a slave. And now he was again. Fuck.
He hadn’t put up much of a fight when the guards slapped a collar on him, not like he had last time. Too much effort and he knew he’d need his strength. Especially if he ran into Warren – or Gods forbid someone worse. He tugged at the thick leather band, face upturning in a small grimace as his piercing blue eyes gazed around the island; around the campus. Coming back during winter break was smart… Get some time off… He thought to himself before adjusting the strap on his bag, holding it tight as he moved a little; adjusting the pressure on his leg. The crutches were new… ish. And he was still getting used to them, but it was better than the last time he was here, using only his stakes to pull himself.
The man wasn’t as quick on the crutches, but it was nice to be off the ground. Taking a slow breath, stifling a groan, Agnarr started to make his way towards the grant student dorms - cells. He was making good pace too until he felt someone slam into him full force. Grunting a little as he stumbled back, almost losing his footing. Can’t fall. Falling hurts more than crawling. Falling makes you look weak. Do not fucking fall. DON’T! FALL!
He dropped his bag, freehand flashing out and grabbing the nearest wall and steadying himself, closing his eyes tightly and letting out a low growl as pain flashed through his lower limbs. Better than falling. Always better than falling… He held tight to the wall, adjusting his grip on his crutch before a low – almost animalistic snarl escaped him. “Se det! Fucking watch where you’re going! Is that too hard?” Blue eyes flashed over to the others face, filled with fury.
“Shit!” Dhani exclaimed, feeling himself trip and slam into Agnarr, having run to greet the young man, excited as hell to see him. Today had started off bad. Warren was in a pissy mood and Dhani had nearly burned himself with his coffee in the kitchen when Warren grabbed him to take his frustrations out on.
“Fuck, I’m sorry!” Dhani said, genuinely worried that he’d caused Agnarr pain, or worse, fucking broken something with his clumsiness. But he couldn’t stop the smile from his face, straightening up and touched Agnarr’s face, gently planting a kiss on his cheek, thinking that hugging him would be unwelcomed as he was trying to steady himself still.
“Look at you, you beautiful bastard!” He chuckled, “You’re upright, holy shit! I’m sorry you’re here but I am so happy to see you at the same time.”
Dhani was skinnier than Agnarr might have remembered. Not terribly but enough to be noticable, still fit, but thinner. Dark bruises against his dark skin littered his body, a fresh one against his cheekbone, a faded scratch and bruise at his eyebrow. The boxers and sneakers being the only thing he wore other than a thorned motif of a thin collar around his neck was rather notiable too.
“Sorry. Are you okay? I-- just tripped, I guess, I was so excited to see you.”
Agnarr’s damned crutch had gotten caught up on some terrain and despite the young man’s better judgement, he’d yanked it free. Though a bit too hard and it threw him off his balance. He had managed to catch himself on the wall and leaned against it for a moment.
It was only as he took that pause to catch his breath that he noticed the eyes upon him. Gods... I should have just stayed in my room. Agnarr let out a low groan of pain, muffled as he clenched his jaw and slowly lifted his piercing blue eyes to the figure near him; staying silent and glaring for a moment.
“What are you looking at?” He snipped before straightening and leaning on his crutch.
.
“Someone who I’d have thought to learn their manners by now. Keep snapping off like that you’re bound to upset someone worse than me, mate.”
Wat stood nearby, his arms folded across his chest, obviously annoyed at being snapped at, particularly before Agnarr knew who was there. He was as silent as the grave, after all, light steps and nothing as distracting as breathing. If Agnarr had known it was him, Wat would’ve given a bit more leeway. Agnarr had little reason to tolerate him after their last encounter, thanks to Wat’s jealousy and cruelty. He was dressed in his usual ridiculous beach fashion, a Mickey Mouse theme Hawaiian shirt and pink shorts, his usual lime green flip flops and sunglasses and of course the centuries old gold ring on his middle finger of his right hand.
“Why do you insist on struggling on that crutch as you do? It’s like you get some kind of sick enjoyment about being constantly frustrated. What happened to those bracers you had before. They seemed to work much better for you...”
Wat’s questions seemed to come from more curiosity than actual concern, but at least he wasn’t actively mocking the lad as he’d done before. Even more surprising that Angelonia wasn’t here to impress.

Juniper had been surprised by the text she’d received but seeing as she wasn’t really doing anything she didn’t mind the favor, so she’d gotten into the car and driven to the school, stopping when she saw him standing outside the school. Pulling up alongside him she rolled down the passenger’s window and gave him a smile. “So what do you want? A ride?” she asked as she looked at the boy standing outside the car. “Where we headed?”
Angelonia and Agnarr discuss Agnarr’s leaving and return before Wat crashes the party and starts an argument. They continue to talk afterwards and the next night Wat comes back to the beach to apologize to Angelonia in person.
@agnarr-frey @floweredpixie
Angelonia: Angelonia sat in the sand, her bikini still on, as it was the summer time and they had a summer dress code, but she didn't mind it, though she did hate that the bikini strap was tight against her back, over her wings. Pushing her keeps in the sand and smiling at the water washed over her toes she giggled softly as she wiggled her toes and watched the water pull back.
Agnarr: Agnarr moved down towards the beach, his long hair draping down past his shoulders and covering his face ever so slightly as he focused on the ground below him. He let out a quiet grunt as he felt his crutch get stuck in the sand, pausing for a moment to tug it free before his gaze lifted and he felt a smile drift across his normally grumpy and guarded features. "Having fun?" He asked the pixie as he neared her - taking his time so as not to trip in the sand.
Angelonia: Angelonia looked over and seeing Agnarr she nodded. "I like the ocean," she reminded him before rolling over onto her stomach, watching him move across the sand, propping her chin up on her hands as she watched him. "Do you want me to help or no?"
Agnarr: He nodded his head slightly with a soft chuckle. "I know you do," he murmured before letting out another grunt as he shook his head and held up a hand. "No no - I can manage, little pixie," Agnarr said - voice soft as it always was with her. He moved to a log seat and slowly sat down, running a hand through his (to him, slightly obnoxious) long hair then set his crutch down beside him. After a moment, Agnarr looked back to the blonde and smiled ever so slightly. "So.. how are you?" He asked softly.
Angelonia: Angelonia watched as he moved slowly to sit down near her and ran his hand through his long hair. Sitting up on her knees she shrugged at his question. "I am alright," she told him, her eyes taking in his length of hair before looking back to his face before dropping her gaze again. "I am happy it is the summer," she told him as she thought about his question before asking "How are you?"
Agnarr: Agnarr smiled slightly when he caught her gaze on his lengthy hair before nodding his head slightly - giving a quick glance out towards the waves that washed in before looking back to her. "It's always summer here... Makes me miss Norway," he murmured before chuckling. "Another day in paradise, right? Alright, all things considered. Could be better - could always be worse," Agnarr said softly, his smile not quite reaching his blue eyes. He let out a slow breath before pulling the band off his wrist and using it to pull his hair back and out of his face.
Angelonia: Angelonia watched him starting to pull his hair away from his face before she got up, moving to kneel behind him and swatting his hands away from his hair as she started to run her fingers through his hair and sighing. "I can ask you a question?" she asked as she started running her fingers through his hair, starting at the crown of his head and going down to the ends before starting again.
Agnarr: Bright blue eyes watched her move closer before sighing softly when she swatted his hand away - but he dropped them compliantly and held still as he felt her fingers work through his hair. Agnarr closed his eyes and let out a soft sigh before they opened again. "Of course you can, Angelonia." Agnarr murmured softly, keeping his head still so she could do what she'd like with his long hair.
Angelonia: She was quiet as she thought about how to ask her question before she started to work a braid into his hair. "You..." she stopped talking, considering her words before she slowly stopped braiding his hair and leaned forward, pressing against his back, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and resting her chin on his shoulder. "You still love me?" she asked softly.
Wat: "A'hoy-hoy!" Wat called from down the beach, noticing a rather familiar blond and a not so familiar boy-blond. He wore sunglasses and a bright Hawaiian shirt and shorts with lime green flip flops. A large umbrella was on his shoulder, a beach chair at his elbow and he carried a cooler with him.
Agnarr: Agnarr kept his head still, tried his hardest to keep his face stoic but it cracked when he felt her arms wrap around him, her head rest on his shoulder. He felt his heartbeat pick up ever so slightly and he slowly lifted a slightly shaking hand to rest on her arm. He took a moment before Agnarr responded, voice soft. "I never stopped loving you, Angelonia - Yes. I still love you.. and I always will," he murmured - his entire focus on the girl he still loved so deeply.
Angelonia: Angelonia turned her head slightly, nuzzling Agnarr's neck softly as he spoke before hearing a familiar voice calling out to them before looking up, her arms withdrawing from around Agnarr's shoulders to rest on his shoulders as she looked at the approaching person who she had long since expected to see again. "Wat?" she asked with a frown, "You left," she said before glancing down at Agnarr and then back at Wat.
Wat: "I did, darling. But now, I've returned. Aren't you going to introduce me to your little friend?" Wat set down his cooler near them and opened it, "Help yourself, dears." He set down his beach chair, opened the large umbrella and then stabbed the pointed end into the sand. He knew he owed Angelonia more than just an apology. More than just an explanation. But being casual about such a thing felt fucking easier. And if Wat didn't want to confront something at the moment... he simply didn't.
Agnarr: A soft sigh escaped him when she nuzzled into his neck before Agnarr slowly pulled his gaze away from her when she moved back to look at the other - though in that moment, all he wanted was to pull her close and hug her tight against him. His brows furrowed slightly in confusion before his gaze shifted to the other. After giving him a once over, Agnarr's gaze shifted from one of warmth and softness that he reserved almost solely for Angelonia to his usual guarded one. "Agnarr. And you are?" He asked, keeping his tone stiff but polite out of respect for Angelonia.
Angelonia: Angelonia watched as Wat got himself settled, setting down a cooler, opening an umbrella and speaking so casually about something that had hurt her when he'd left. "Wat, this is Agnarr, Agnarr, this is Wat," she introduced them, remembering the human custom of introducing people before she looked at him with a frown. "You did not even say goodbye," she reminded him, moving to stand to her feet, abandoning Agnarr's half finished braid in the process.
Wat: "No." Wat stated simply, with something close to regret in his voice. Harder to tell behind his sunglasses. He watched her stand up, curious as he moved to lounge back in his chair. "But so did he, if I remember correctly." No reason why Wat should take all the blame for her pouting features. He reached forward, pulling a wine cooler from the box, twisting off the cap and plucking it back into the container.
Agnarr: Agnarr watched Angelonia move up and his hard features were replaced with a look of guilt and sadness. Though again quickly replaced with a cold look as his blue eyes snapped to the man lounging not far from him. "Watch it, leech. I'm more than aware of how I've hurt her and I'll have to live with that guilt for the rest of my life - The least you could do is apologize for being a dick," Agnarr snipped, his features upturned in just barely contained anger.
Angelonia: Angelonia looked between the two men, Agnarr's comment making her bite her lip when she realized Wat was a teacher. "Agnarr," she admonished softly as she looked at him softly. "He is a teacher," she reminded him gently, not wanting him to get into trouble even though she was somewhat sure Wat wouldn't punish him, but with how he was acting now she wasn't entirely sure if she did know the man she thought she'd known in the past. "Wat, he is not meaning to be mean," she explained quickly, not wanting him to be offended by Agnarr's words.
Wat: "Oh, I think he is." Wat spoke lowly and while he hated to demonstrate his brute strength of his vampire self despite his bean pole of a body, it seemed this lad didn't seem to care who he was addressing. He had Agnarr's face in the sand, holding him down for only a few second, enough to sputter and taste stand before letting up and placing a hand on his chest, holding him to the ground. "You forget with whom you're speaking, slave boy. What if I was some other awful professor? What if your mouthing off gets poor Angelonia in trouble? Could you live with that?"
Agnarr: Agnarr glanced towards Angelonia and sighed softly, knowing that he should tone it down. His mouth only ever got him in trouble - and it almost always seemed to be with vampires too. Just as he turned to respond, he felt his face pressed against the sand; held down so easily by the other man's single hand. His legs practically screamed in pain at the sudden movement - Letting out a low growl, Agnarr tried to move away. "Get the fuck off of me, damn leech! I don't give a shit what this place says, this strip of leather around my neck doesn't mean you're better than me--" Agnarr snarled, trying to lift his head up to keep sand out of his mouth and eyes. Though at Wat's question of if Agnarr's mouth would get Angelonia in trouble, the boy bit hard on his tongue. No - he couldn't. But he wasn't about to give this man the satisfaction of submitting. "Get. Off."
Angelonia: Angelonia let out a small yelp of surprise when Wat had moved and shoved Agnarr's face into the sand, forgetting for a second that Wat was a teacher and she and Agnarr were both slaves she moved to his side, pulling at his arm. "Stop- you will hurt him!" she protested as she looked at Wat, her eyes shining as she found herself wondering how she could have ever liked someone who acted like this, but when Agnarr started to yell at Wat she pulled away from both of them, walking a few paces away before turning to stare at them, the shine of her eyes replaced with a frustration she hadn't felt before. "You have both hurt me- Is this a sick competition to see who has hurt Angelonia more? Both of you are the winners! And Wat you will not use me as a threat to hold over Agnarr to make him comply, he will comply if you let him, and Agnarr, you will not speak to him that way, you are both behaving very childishly and I do not know what I ever saw in either of you in this moment!" she couldn't help but shout at the two men before throwing her hands up and then stooping to pick up a handful of sand and throwing it in their direction.
Wat: Wat was about to bare his fangs as Agnarr mouthed off again before Angelonia started arguing back. They were both being childish. Well, Agnarr should be so lucky it was just him. And that Angie was there, too. She threw sand at them and Wat shielded his face with his free hand before getting up, hands off Agnarr and venturing back to his seat, brushing sand off his shirt and hair. "Alright, Angie! No need for sand throwing... you'll get it in my drink..." Wat practically whined. "But your boyfriend is being a tit."
Agnarr: Another low growl escaped him - about to snap again before he fell silent at Angelonia's words. Shame filled the boy and he cast his gaze away before grunting when Wat let up off him. Agnarr sat up quickly, despite the protest in his legs and glared at the retreating vampire. He scoffed at the whining of the other but said nothing else to the other man, truly not wanting to upset Angel more than he already had. "Sorry, søt jente," he murmured before letting out a muffled groan as he pulled himself back up onto the log he'd been sitting on. He cast one more glare at the other man but shoved his angry words down.
Angelonia: "My name is not Angie, it is Angelonia, and he is not my boyfriend, neither of you are and neither of you ever will be if you don't stop being cunts!" Angelonia shouted before spinning around, sitting on the sand facing the ocean and crossing her arms with a huff and pushing her feet into the sand as she stared at the ocean, tears of frustration that she would never want either of them to see rolling down her cheeks.
Wat: "Well, Angelonia, my darling little pixie slave, I'll know not to use pet names with you again. Terms of affection and all that." Wat got up again, taking another sip of his wine cooler before purposefully tossing the glass bottle beside her. A pixie of the forest surely wouldn't stand for littering. But he was rather upset. "And who ever said I wanted to be your fucking boyfriend? Please, if you'd rather be with this slagging off broken legged boy, then be my guest." Wat gathered up his things rather quickly. "But he will get you in trouble with that fucking attitude. Don't dare come crying to me. Ruin my fucking beach day..." Wat growled and walked away, back up the boardwalk to return his umbrella and chair and find somewhere else to drink alone.
Agnarr: Agnarr bit down hard on his tongue to keep himself from responding to the cruel words the vampire said. He kept his gaze hard until the other finally walked away before it immediately softened when Angelonia and him were alone again. 'Fuck... not the way to fucking go.' Agnarr thought to himself before dropping down and adjusting so he could pull himself over to her. She was right - they had both been acting childish. He waited a moment, not sure if he should go to her or wait for her to speak again - but Agnarr decided to move a bit closer. He pulled himself forward, dragging his legs behind him. "Angelonia... I- I'm sorry. I shouldn't have reacted like that..." he murmured. He adjusted to be sitting in the sand, sitting near her but still giving her a bit of space.
Angelonia: Angelonia's chin trembled as Wat left but she managed to keep herself from sobbing until he left and Agnarr pulled himself next to her. Her elbows on her knees she buried her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking as she sobs wracked her body. "Why does everyone leave me?" she sobbed into her hands before looking at Agnarr, trying to control her voice before she shook her head, wiping her face. "Why must people be so cruel?" she asked before closing the distance between them, wrapping her arms around his neck and sobbing into his shoulder.
Agnarr: "Oh..." He breathed out - trying to find some way to respond, to bring comfort to the sweet girl he'd caused so much pain. But his mind ran blank. "I- I don't know, min kjærlighet, " he whispered. Agnarr didn't even realize that he had said his native words for only her. They slipped out so easily without any thought as he wrapped his arms around her waist when she hugged onto him. Agnarr held her close to him, murmuring softly to try and offer some sort of comfort. "I'm so sorry," he whispered, almost breathlessly as he continued to hold her gently - his hand coming up to gently run through her hair as he had done so many times before when he held her just like this.
Angelonia: "He was so mean," she managed to say through sobs. "He called you horrible things and he threatened me," she hiccuped as she gripped him a little tighter. "He never did that before- I did not mean I want a boyfriend, I meant I could never be with someone who behaves that way," she explained her words to Agnarr as she pulled away and looked at him with a frown, her tears rolling down her face in hot splashes down her cheeks.
Agnarr: Agnarr frowned and nodded his head lightly. "I know... I know, Angel. I'm sorry he acted that way and- and I am sorry for the part I had in it... I wasn't trying to upset you even more," he hummed before gently reaching his free hand up to wipe away the tears that fell down her cheeks. "Please don't cry, min kjærlighet. Please? I can handle some name calling - and I would never let someone-- I would never let him hurt you. I swear," Agnarr murmured softly, guilt filling his eyes. He didn't understand how the other man could act so callously towards Angelonia, especially when their situations were so similar. They had both left her - both hurt her. But Agnarr wasn't sure the other felt guilt as he did for causing the pain they did -- Seeing her cry and knowing that he had part in the reason why felt like a knife twisting in Agnarr's heart. He kept his gentle hold on her, softly wiping tears and gently playing with her blonde hair trying to offer calm and comfort.
Angelonia: She leaned into his hand when he wiped away the tears from her cheeks before shaking her head. "I do not think he would hurt me, not really," she sniffled softly before pausing and then looking down. "But I do not know." she admitted softly. "You are not broken Agnarr," she looked at him, meeting his eye for the first time since he had returned. "You are stubborn and do not know when to shut your mouth, but you are not broken." she smiled softly, reaching out to touch his cheek.
Agnarr: "I won't let him," Agnarr said - voice still soft but firmer this time. A vow to her and one he intended to keep. He sighed softly at her next words and glanced away then back when she met his eyes for the first time since his return - and by the Gods, how he had missed her gaze. He felt his chest tighten and he shook his head slightly, offering her a light - almost playful smile. "Me? Stubborn? Never," he murmured softly before reaching up to gently rest his hand atop hers. The normally very stoic boy felt tears well up in his bright blue eyes but he quickly blinked them away, giving her another gentle smile. "No, min kjærlighet. I am not," Agnarr hummed softly in agreement. He leaned into her touch for a moment longer before shaking his head and adjusting them both a bit so he was holding her in his lap. His arms wrapped protectively around the smaller girl and he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. "I am sorry, Angelonia. For all the pain I have caused you," he murmured - voice soft.
Angelonia: Angelonia let him adjust them, looking at him she sighed before she nodded at his apology. "I know you are," she replied softly. "I am sorry that I cannot forgive you at this time, but I know that you are sorry, and I am thankful that you at least care about my feelings," she told him after what had happened before she had to admit that Agnarr did at least care about her feelings on the matter, and he was apologetic. Laying her cheek against his shoulder she sighed before looking over at the bottle that Wat had thrown next to her, something she was sure was meant to antagonize her. "I thought he was a good vampire."
Agnarr: Agnarr held her gently before shaking his head. "Don't apologize - I know it's going to take time," he assured her softly before following her gaze to the bottle beside them. "I'll pick it up before we leave," Agnarr said before frowning a little and nodding. "I seem to have a talent for pushing at vampires buttons, don't I?" he muttered, though he kept his tone light - trying to ease the tension from the nights confrontation. "Maybe he just wasn't having a good day.." Agnarr offered, though he gently hugged Angelonia closer without thinking about it. He wasn't sure how Wat acted normally - but Agnarr did know that he only trusted one vampire on the island - all others he had run into never ended well.
Angelonia: "No," Angelonia said softly. "I will pick it up." she told him, sighing when he hugged her closer before she shook her head. "Was I unfair?" she asked softly. "Did I make a mistake?" she questioned gently.
Agnarr: "Unfair?" Agnarr asked, breath escaping him in shock. "No, little pixie. You were not unfair. You were angry and rightfully so -- That.. man.. reacted poorly when called him... Well, us out on our shit and that's on him, not you." He said, gently tucking some hair behind her ear. "I don't think you made a mistake, Angelonia. Not at all."
The next day...
Angelonia: Angelonia was back on the beach, alone this time; a master had made a small bonfire and when they had left they told her to stay and enjoy the fire, which she was doing, enjoying her time alone, watching the fire crackle and eating a small container of mixed berries she’d bought in her way to the beach, not hating this time alone for the early evening.
Wat: The little starling had been following her since she'd gotten to the beach, keeping an eye out on the boardwalk, sitting on the wooden rail until the other master left and Angelonia was left alone. He flew up as the master left, passing him, and flew towards the pixie, landing on her little container of berries, taking on and flittering over to the pile of wood left stacked to replinish the fire to eat it. He set it down and watched it roll off the log to the next one. He cocked his head, tweeting curiously at Angelonia, as if to ask why his food was trying to get away from him. He hopped down to the other log, pecking at the berry.
Angelonia: Angelonia was surprised but amused when a small bird flew up to her, stealing one of her berries and then going to the wood pile nearby. “Oh- hello little one,” she smiled at the bird cheerfully, setting her berries to the side and picking up the one that had rolled away from it, breaking it in half so the bird would be able to keep hold of the berry better. “There you go,” she said setting the two halves of the blackberry down for the bird.
Wat: The starling moved closer, hopping to the pile she offered. He ate the bits of the berries, not settling for just one. He was close enough for her to pet and hopped a bit closer, head tilting again. "Than'k you--" The starling spoke in a halting voice, but clearly Wat's.
Angelonia: Angelonia screamed- she couldn’t help it, in her century of living in the woods she have never- never heard a bird speak before and this- it was too weird for her. Scrambling away from the bird- towards the fire she didn’t register whose voice she had heard coming from the bird, focusing more on the fact that the bird had spoken, and that was not the kind of bird that could mimic words.
Wat: The bird jumped, fluttering a bit, obviously scared from her scream and tweeted musically in efforts to calm her a bit. It spoke again, sounding like Wat through a child's toy or walkie talkie. "Sorry." He tweeted again and moved to eat more from the berries. "Forgive?" Pecked at more berries. "Yum."
Angelonia: Angelonia gaped as the bird spoke again, not just repeating words, speaking with intelligence. Kneeling down near it she reached out to poke the bird gently. “Who... are you?” She questioned softly as she watched the bird stealing her berries.
Wat: "Watch it--" The bird said hopping away as she poked at him. He fluttered over to a spot on her beach down, changing from starling to vampire with a puff of smoke. He sat cross legged and reached for his half eaten berries, popping one in his mouth. "Hello, darling. Did you get my presents?"
Angelonia: Angelonia stared in surprise when the bird turned into Wat, speechless for a long moment before her face flushed, embarrassed that he had been able to trick her so well. “You- you were the bird?” She asked as she gaped at him
Wat: "Yes." Wat said and smiled. "I also can turn into a bat. Cute brown and fuzzy. Would you like to see?" He asked, looking a bit hopeful. Then after a moment, realizing he shouldn't act as if nothing happened. "I should not have left the island without a goodbye, Angelonia..."
Angelonia: “No,” Angelonia shook her head when he asked if she wanted to see him turn into a bat. When he started to talk about when he left she remembered that she was upset with him
Angelonia: *and looked away from him, moving to pick up the berries she’d knocked over into the sand. “You are not the only one,” she told him softly. “People I care about seem to have a habit of leaving without saying goodbye.”
Wat: "I suppose that was too much to ask." Wat sighed and merely watched her for a moment. He picked up another berry not covered in sand, eating it. "Perhaps I am too accustomed to leaving people. Perhaps I was ...afraid of finally finding somewhere to stay."
Angelonia: “I do not understand,” she said as she gathered her berries and seeing him reaching for berries she left the container near him, standing up and brushing the sand from her body before walking to the other side of the fire, crossing her arms as she did. “You do not have to stay, you just should tell people goodbye, especially people like you who are able to live for a long time.” She looked at him with a raised eyebrow as she spoke. “Who will remember for a long time.”
Wat: Wat sighed heavily, and got up, following her to sit closer, but not too close. "That is the point I'm getting to, Angelonia. I am not used to others with lives as long as mine. Not those I've cared to stay around anyway. Even other vampires I never stuck around for very long. I didn't much care for many of them."
Angelonia: She moved, keeping the fire between them when he moved closer, her eyes not meeting his, but keeping an eye on him, especially after the day before. “I understand not caring for many vampires,” she agreed. “And I am happy you are able to care for people with longer lives now,” she added as she looked from him into the fire.
Wat: "Did you get my note?" Wat asked after a moment, noticing her body language towards him and didn't venture closer again. He had screwed up badly. This wasn't what he had in mind when he thought of begging for her forgiveness before yesterday.
Angelonia: Angelonia nodded when he asked if she had gotten his note- she had, and while she initially had been so excited at getting the presents and the flowers she had almost forgotten what had happened the night before but reading the note had brought back the pain and frustration she had experienced the night before. They weren’t emotions she was used to feeling or dealing with, so working through them was not something she had really had to face like this. “I did,” she admitted, looking down at the purple bikini she was wearing, not one if the ones he’d given her. “I did not understand something,” she said after thinking about the note. “Why jealous?”
Wat: "Why jealous?" Wat questioned and thought for a moment, shrugging. "Because I like you a great deal, Angelonia. Even though I didn't act so last night. I tried to act as if me leaving didn't matter. I tried to act like you and Agnarr back together was fine and cute. And then he insulted me and you acted afraid of me. So I got angry and... I shouldn't have. And I am sorry. I know this is alot to ask of you."
Angelonia: “We are not together,” she looked up quickly, shaking her head as she met Wat’s eye. “He left me twice, I- we were discussing things when you came to the beach, but we are not together.” She explained before sighing and running a hand over her face. “I am not with anyone, I am with myself,” she told him as she thought about everything that had happened the night before. “I am sorry Agnarr insulted you; he can be very... impulsive.”
Wat: "Alright." Wat said, wanting to ensure he was hearing her that she and Agnarr were not together and not to make the mistake saying so again. "Angelonia, have I ever hurt you before?"
Angelonia: “No,” Angelonia shook her head when he asked if he had hurt her before. “No, never.” She said softly. “Why do you ask?”
Wat: "Because I don't understand why you were acting scared of me after Agnarr said those things... Does he talk like that to everyone you are friendly with?" Wat spoke with concern in his voice. Maybe it was less than genuine concern over her and more concern over what Agnarr's influence or presence might have to Angelonia, who was otherwise very sweet and non-confrontational. It worried him.
Angelonia: Angelonia looked down when he said he didn’t understand why she had been scared, not knowing if she had told him about her negative experience with a vampire precious to knowing him. “I have had bad experiences with violence,” she told him softly, walking a little closer. “It scares me.” She thought about Agnarr’s attitude before shrugging and admitting “He has told me in the past about his attitude, but I have never seen him quite that aggressive before.”
Wat: "And pardon my memory, I am an old man, but did I say anything to offend either of you before he spoke to me the way he did?" Wat asked and was glad to see her warming up to him a little. He shook his head, "I will not lord my station over you. Or him. At least not again. I was never one to do so even when encouraged..." It was more or less a lie, but it made him look good right now. And any use of his privilege here was never really malicious. "But I worry that someone will use his outbursts, that they will punish him by punishing you. And that i could not abide."
Angelonia: “No,” Angelonia admitted softly as she shook her head. “I was just surprised you had come back- I was was surprised you had not said something to me before and I was hurt, Agnarr, he hurt me too, very recently and I think he was trying to make up for his own slights,” she explained. “Usually he will stop when I ask him to, but he- he gets upset.”
Wat: "I suppose he was angry that you were upset with me. I mean that I had upset you." Wat clarified. He ventured a little towards her. "And I am sorry for upsetting you. Before and now. What can I do to make this up to you?"
Angelonia: Angelonia nodded when he explained what he though Agnarr was feeling. “That sounds correct,” she agreed. When he apologized she nodded again and sighed, reaching up to push her hair behind her ear. “I do not know,” she admitted before cracking a small smile. “The presents help,” she said with a small shrug and a coy smile before shaking her head. “You do not have to buy me any more presents. But just- promise me you will not hurt me again?”
Wat: "But what if I like buying you presents?" Wat grinned, then let it fade to address her a bit more seriously, giving a nod, "I will try my very best not to. But if I do, you will tell me so I can try to make things right and correct my actions, won't you? Hold me accountable for being a, pun intended, ding-bat." He smiled again.
Angelonia: Angelonia smiled as he said he liked buying her presents before sitting down next to him and nodding. “And what if I like you buying me presents?” She asked as she looked what him before she thought about his question before nodding again. “Yes, I will let you know.” She agreed. “So where did you go?” She asked as she smiled at him.
Wat: "Well, I suppose I will have to keep buying them." Wat chuckled, glad to be sitting easy with her again. "I went chasing after a slave that left here suddenly. i thought perhaps he was related to me...and I found out he was not."
Angelonia: “Oh,” Angelonia nodded when he explained where he had been. “I am sorry he was not a relative,” she said softly as she rested her elbows on her knees and rested her chin in her hands. “You wanted to be related to him?” She asked.
Wat: "So am I." Wat smiled to her and gave a nod, "Remember when I told you about my children? Well, they all grew up named Tyler instead of Fletcher. But I do know my brother survived the plague. We thought he'd gone to be a monk so for many many years I never thought to look in on what family he might have made. I kept hitting dead ends, looking back and gave up. A boy came here with the last name Fletcher. And then he left before I got to know him well. So perhaps, foolishly, I followed. I would very much like to have family again."
Angelonia: Angelonia nodded when he said he wanted family again before sighing. “I wish I could see my family again,” she smiled at him before shrugging. “I hope you find yours,” she told him honestly as she smiled at him before biting her lip. “May I say something about last night?” She asked.
Wat: "Thank you," Wat said. He knew he couldn't do much more for her missing her own family. Perhaps one of them might show up. He tilted his head a little seeing her bit her lip and gave a nod, "Of course."
Angelonia: “I am sorry I insinuated you wanted to be with me, that was not what I was trying to say, and it was not right of me to twist your feelings,” she explained softly. “And I should have worded it better.”
Wat: "I don't think that's something you need to apologize for, Angelonia," Wat spoke gently. He shook his head, "I may not want to be your boyfriend but it doesn't mean I don't care deeply for you. I'm sorry I spoke as if the idea was insulting. Far from it."
Angelonia: “I do not think you want to be with me,” she assured him with a nod. “I know that you do not, I was frustrated.” She explained as she ran her hand over the sand she sat on.
Wat: "You were right to be frustrated," Wat chuckled a little and looked curiously to her, "I don't suppose you would humor an old man and want to spend the night, would you? I do get so lonely in that apartment..." Another lie being an extremely solitary person, but what could it hurt if it made her feel wanted or special?
Angelonia: Angelonia sighed at his offer before looking at the fire that was slowly dying in the pit before them, thinking about his offer before she looked at him. “I do not want you to pity me.” She finally replied as she looked down at her hands as she spoke. “I do not want you to invite me only because you feel sorry for me.”
Wat: "Feel sorry for you? For what, Angelonia?" Wat was genuinely confused, and a bit surprised of where she'd gotten that idea. "If I'm feeling sorry for anyone it's for myself. i would never pity you. You have more dignity than that, love."
Angelonia.: "For the things I said last night," Angelonia said softly as she remembered the feeling of yelling at them, her cheeks flushing pink as she thought about it. "I do not want it to seem like I want something that is beyond my reach, nor do I want you to think that I am pathetic for still spending time with Agnarr, even though he has hurt me more than once." she explained as she turned to look at him, a tear rolling down her cheek and she wiped it away quickly. "I do not want pity for misunderstanding your affections, nor do I want it for any reason, even though I know I am wrong," she tried to explain as she sighed. "Am I... Making sense?"
Wat: It took Wat a moment to respond and instinctively he wanted to wipe her tears away for her, but did not. "Pity is what made me a vampire in the first place, Angelonia. Pity and greed and arrogance... And fear. I would not pity you, no matter who you spend your time with. And if you find it in your heart to forgive me, or Agnarr, that is not pathetic. That is patience and the willingness to hope for something better. Trusting that we might be better. That is not foolishness."
Angelonia.: Angelonia shook her head at his words as she thought about something her brother used to say. "Trusting outsiders only leads to pain," she mumbled softly before looking at him again. "I will spend the night in your apartment if that is what you wish." she nodded as she started to brush the sand from her legs. "Did you want to leave now?"
Wat: "Slow down, Angelonia." He frowned a little, hearing her mumble and then stood up with her, brushing sand from his own skinny legs. "And who among us isn't an outsider now? On this island. Iwould love for you to stay the night with me. I would even very much like to make love to you, but not if you don't want me to. And if you don't want to stay over, you can say so."
Angelonia.: "My brother Spruce would say that to me when I was still among my own people," she explained before thinking about his proposition. "I will stay with you, but I do not think that making love is the best idea for me at the moment," she said after a moment of thought. "I cannot explain," she sighed impatiently at herself and her own inability to express herself, frustrated at herself. "I would like to spend time with you, but my feelings are hurting and I have too many emotions," she tried to explain.
Wat: Wat regarded her for a moment, seeing her frustration at her own thoughts. An idea came to him and he wasn't sure how well it would work or if it would even help. But even if she said terrible things about him, he wouldn't mind. "Angelonia... just start talking. Whatever you're thinking right now... all those emotions, just say whatever you can out loud. Even if it's mean to me, I promise not to get upset. Maybe that could help. Don't think, just start talking."
Angelonia.: Angelonia looked at him with a slightly tilted head before she sighed and shrugged, if that was what he wanted she would just talk. "I do not know why you want me to talk, I am scared of my feelings at the moment, not just for you but for Agnarr and for someone else, I miss my family, I wonder if my brother was right, I am scared of you because another vampire tried to drain me when you were gone and after seeing you push Agnarr, it made me remember trying to push her off of me," she took a breath before continuing. "I would like to go to bed with you but I am afraid of conflicting my feelings even further, my head hurts and there are too many thoughts and emotions in my brain, it has been over a year since I was comfortable- at all- I hurt all the time and I do not know why I feel all these things all the time it is too much for anyone person to feel!" she said before looking up at him, hoping he could make sense of the things she was saying with how fast she had a tendency to speak.
Wat: He knew he probably shouldn't, but he had to. Wat moved close and hugged her, hoping she would let him but was prepared to let her go if she didn't want it. "I'm sorry some other vampire was here and took advantage of you. I'm sorry I was not here to help you then. And while it would be nice to sleep with you again, I respect your feelings. The great many confusing ones there are right now." He smiled to her, "Do you feel better? Even a little?"
Angelonia.: Angelonia was surprised by the hug, but she hugged him back before sighing and shrugging. "A little, yes." she nodded as she thought about things. "I just wish I could be small again, you cannot have so many thoughts and feelings at the same time. I have been big for over a year now and it is painful." she explained. "Physically and mentally."
Wat: He kissed her head, pulling away a little to smile at her, "Oh, I don't know. I like you this big. How little were you, though? Perhaps we could have flown around together. A pixie and a bird. Or bat."
Angelonia.: Angelonia smiled at the small kiss to the head before sighing as she thought about how small she would look to a human- or a vampire. "Less than a foot?" she asked. "Near six to seven inches," she explained as she thought about it, holding her hands to the height she would stand when she was small. "I am short for my kind, my brother Spruce, he is almost ten and a half inches tall, that is very tall for our kind."
Wat: "That does seem very tall. None of you ever posed for pictures with a few little English girls in the 1800s, did you?" Wat chuckled, remembering those famous pictures that had fooled even Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Unless he was correct...
Angelonia.: "In the 1800's?" Angelonia asked before shaking her head. "I was born in 1904, I would not know," she said as she thought about it. "But there was a time we did live with another pixie village, very far from our woods, the fae were still attacking at times and we were refugees for a small time you see," she explained. "So many of the gnomes and brownies did not understand that the war was over, and the fae encouraged it. So we left the woods for a time to make them believe that they were winning while we made some deals with other creatures, cameras back then were no longer those big boxes, they were smaller boxes," she smiled. "I don't know about the 1800's but there were some lovely human children when I was very young that I played with."
Wat: Wat smiled even more. "Forgive my old brain. I believe it was later than that. I have an idea... There was a story of two little girls who photographed several fairies. Some people believed them. Others thought the fairies were simply cut outs from a book... I was in America by then, but it was a very famous story. Perhaps you were one of them. We could look you up on the internet."
Angelonia.: "Maybe," Angelonia shrugged. "The children did have a camera." she smiled before sighing. "I am sorry my feelings are so confused at this moment," she told him as she touched his arm gently. "I have very many feelings and I do enjoy spending this time together." she assured him as she smiled up at him.
Wat: "It's alright, dear." Wat looked down at her hand, smiling again and did very much want to kiss her but... that would possibly be too much, too soon. Better just to go home, have some cake and surf the web for those pictures. "Shall we go?"
