Aggelos was coined by Tumblr user coloneldotexe on January 28, 2021.

Aggelos is described as “literally meaning “messenger” but in a gender context, it means it’s an angelic gender that presents masculine, feminine, in a softly binary way; but that’s only part of the gender’s presentation. their true gender of the aggelos is that they’re “other” gendered, not male, female, agender, or even neutral, but some other heavenly gender that cannot be described with words. can be used by anyone, but preferably used by those who are neurodivergent who believe that their delusions of divinity or angelicism come into play with their conception gender”

There wasn’t a flag in the original coining post.

The Septuagint of the Old Testament translates “angel of the LORD” in Genesis 16:7-11 as ἄγγελος κυρίου (angelos kuriou). The phrase is used in the New Testament about 12 times, listed below.

Matthew 28:2 - written as ἄγγελος γὰρ κυρίου (angelos gar kuriou)

Luke 1:11 - angelos is used alone for this being in verses 13, 18, and 19

Acts 5:19 - written as ἄγγελος δὲ κυρίου (angelos de kuriou)

Acts 7:30 - retelling the story of the burning bush

Acts 8:26 - written as ἄγγελος δὲ κυρίου

For comparison, the phrase is NOT used in Luke 1:28 or 1:38 or anytime during Gabriel’s encounter with Mary. In Acts 12:11 it is implied, but the phrasing is slightly different. 

In Luke 2, when the angel visits the shepherds, it is introduced as angelos kuriou. In verses 2:10 and 2:13 it is called “the angel”, and in 13 it is joined by  πλῆθος στρατιᾶς οὐρανίου (plethos stratias ouraniou) or “many hosts of heaven”. In 2:15 the group of beings are called “the angels” and they return to “the heaven”. At the end of the verse, the shepherds credit “the Lord” for telling them the news.

This phrase leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

Is the Greek angelos kuriou the same as saying “THE angel of the LORD”, or is it just saying “an angel of the Lord”?

In the OT, who was the “angel of the LORD”? Was it the person of Jesus before he was human? Was it the manifestation of the presence of God? Is it the same as the “Word of God”? Is it a created being and NOT an extension of God?
