Sigmarathon paying off - 2000 pts of Archaon and friends painting up mostly to a decent standard.
Wasn't able to swing the narrative in the favour of Tzeentch but at least I kept reinforcements going to the big game for a good long while.
Damn lizardmen are good at coming back.
WIP
Shot from the start of my contribution to the mega #miniaturesmonthly narrative event this weekend in Cardiff. Unfortunately, my spell-busting Kharadron were unable to prevent the Storm Keep at Grimm's Bay from falling to the Orruks, the irresistible green tide washing the defenders into the sea. Fantastic weekend of games, great to see everyone, and looking forward to the next one! #ageofsigmar #ageofsigmarathon #paintingwarhammer (at Firestorm Games) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqVlx1FnqZF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=omuy014l7ewa
COUNTDOWN TO CARDIFF
1 DAY TO GO
And that’s it! I was thinking of getting some more painting done in the morning, but I decided in the end to get everything packed up and ready to go.
A bit more paint on during the day - I got the characters looking in line with the others, yellow and dark metal. I also got them assembled (bit of blu-tack, bit of superglue) and, along with all the others, based. Lots of them are tacked together with superglue, including the Gunhualers. I just hope I can separate them again after in order to get them painted.
The Skywardens were an absolute pain. Getting the flying stands glued to their backpacks was awkward, and keeping them attached to the dwarfs without glue is a pain as well. They’ll be fun at the weekend. At least I managed to get some gold on their endrinspheres.
So that’s it all done. Well, done for now - I’ll keep working on them after this weekend, just at a slower rate. I never had a Warhammer Fantasy army, and I’m looking forward to finishing these off, and having them available to play with in the future.
But what next? So many options...

COUNTDOWN TO CARDIFF
2 DAYS TO GO
I made a big push to get as much paint on the remaining models - metals and more yellow, so that they fit in with the Arkanauts and give the impression of what the army will look like when finished. That’s the best I can aim for at the minute, a cohesive looking army.
So the Thunderers and Skywardens have their heavy armour painted, and a first layer of yellow on their suits. That’s the key colouring - the red detailing can wait. If I have the time tomorrow, I’ll whack some metal on the weapons, but no rush there.
I’ve glued on the heads of the Arkanauts - undecided whether to just leave their backpacks off completely so I don’t have to worry about removing or painting them afterwards when I finish them off. Now the key things to get done are the characters, and then supergluing bases and weapons in place for the time being.
And, looking at the Gunhaulers again, working out transport.

3 DAYS TO GO
That’s all the red finished on the Arkanauts, and the red and yellow have been put away (for now). I’ve mixed up my dark metal of 50/50 Abaddon Black and Leadbelcher, which didn’t look as dark as I remembered, but a quick layer of Leadbelcher showed that that on its own is much brighter than I remembered. I’ve gone round the armoured collars of all 20 Arkanauts, and that means I’m happy to now glue the heads and backpacks in place.
I’m not going to get details (or tidying) done, so that’s probably it for them, other than getting some metal on the weapons. With heads and backpacks on, I’ll then get them lightly superglued to bases. Same with the special weapons, so I can break them off at a later date and continue with the models to a standard I’ll be much happier with.
Onto the Thunderers. With the mix ready, these will be a doddle (he says). I’ll have to crack the yellow and red out again, because despite their heavy armour there’s more dwarf backsides to yellow up, but five (even eight with the Skywardens) is a much more appealing number than twenty.
My toe still bloody hurts too.

4 DAYS TO GO
Got the final 3 Arkanauts yellowed, and started on the red details. So fiddly, so slow. Hoped to be on metallics now, but with the Thunderers being mostly metallic, I’ll be able to lump those in tomorrow. I have to appreciate that of the 30 infantry I have to paint, the Arkanauts make up 2/3rds of that, and so would be the biggest time consumers.
The Skywardens can be in with the characters on Wednesday/Thursday. I’ll get the final priming finished tomorrow. I’ll be taking my wet palette and a few paints with me, so I’ll have a couple of hours Friday evening when I get there.
Would like to have got more done, but painting was curtailed by me dropping a large pork joint on baking tray on my toe. Really. Didn’t need that.
