You pad into the living room, an oversized sweater tugged over your shoulders: winter has made it’s presence known at last, and while you can’t imagine a better way to spend your day than cuddling up somewhere with a nice cup of cocoa and a book, you’re not appreciating the chills that keep running down your back.

Santi’s kicked back on the couch, a pair of headphones situated over his head which bobs just slightly to whatever tune he’s listening to. Smiling, you lean over the back of the couch to greet him: even with the headphones on, you can faintly hear the song and are immediately able to place it. 

Twisting your head to look at him with a scrunched-up expression, you tease, “Metallica? C’mon, babe...”

Santiago wags a finger at you, the ‘argument’ a familiar one between you, “Knock it all you want, but when you’re -”

“Up in a chopper, you want something loud to drown out the engines,” you finish for him, and he smiles faintly at how well you know him, that you’d picked up the thread of what he was saying and finished it flawlessly. You soften at that smile, and squeeze his shoulder, “I’m making some cocoa, do you want some?” 

“Depends...is there marshmallows?” Santiago asked, his eyes narrowing.

“Somewhere in the state of Florida,” you reply with a grin, “though I’m not entirely sure about in the Garcia household.” 

“Yeah, I’ll take some,” Santiago agrees, leaning up to nuzzle his nose against yours before pressing a quick kiss to your lips. “And while you do that, I’ll put on some music that we both like, how’s that?”

“Much appreciated,” you tell him with a grin, pushing yourself off the couch to continue your way to the kitchen. A few seconds later, the living room fills with the opening bars of ‘Jessie’s Girl’, accompanied by the sound of Santiago singing along to it, purposefully off-key to make you laugh.

oh...oh okay. I see. Hurt/comfort time hhhh. That's what he deserves!!! He deserves SOFT things, okay someone please give it to him and on god him no longer thinking of the trauma associated with it....chris....m on the floor....

And like the first half of this actually reminded me that I noticed that part of Poe's flight suit - the white vest part - is actually torn up from debris when Finn checks on him after the hanger is destroyed so for headcanon's sake, let's say he also has a scar from that, and it hits him harder than most of the others because where the other scars are mostly just from when he was in danger, this one is a reminder of everyone he couldn't save and hhhhh

okay I think here I’m going to have to go with the Falcon and Poe simply because I do Not think my anxious ass could survive the sheer STRESS of working for SHIELD and especially on the Zephyr...like that plane gets hijacked an alarming amount??? why do they not, at this point, have better locks on this thing like???? also I feel like I would be more of a nuisance than anything trying to hang out with Fitz because I wouldn’t be able to keep up with whatever he was sciencing.

Poe's relationship with death is just. He's so thoughtful on the matter (even at eight years old!!), so resigned to his own, so determined to prevent many others that he even starts to adapt L'ulo's philosophy into his own after L'ulo dies in the comic - L'ulo's line at the start of the prison arc, about taking down as many of their ships as he can now so they can't kill them later versus Poe deciding to press his attack on the Dreadnaught, like??? And there's such a difference later in the comics, particularly the annuals, and ofc in Resistance, where he's a little more reckless, a little more willing to dish out some trouble for the FO than he was before L'ulo died...and that's a whole different tangent I just went on good golly.

But like...he will do anything to prevent as many as he can and he blames himself for every person he can't save under his command (like I think a lot of people think his line "there were heroes on that mission" was him trying to defend his own actions but I think it was more along the lines of him kind of [makes frustrated noises as I try to word it] he doesn't just want their sacrifice to be tossed aside, he wants to make sure they're remembered for what he knew they were, heroes, even as it's! killing him! that he lost so many people! look how exhausted he is! in that sequence! It's such a VISIBLE difference from when he's talking with Finn, he's had time for the shock to wear off and he continues to blame himself for everyone the Resistance loses in TLJ???? And it carries on into Resistance Reborn until Poe "invented bravado" Dameron is uncomfortable by Finn and Suralinda joking about the mission being dangerous, or the resistance or him being heroes, because he doesn't want to lose anyone else and YET we still have him telling everyone in the Resistance point blank he'd sacrifice his life in an instant if it meant taking down the First Order and -

this is absolutely going to expose how much attention I pay to the expanding collar, but *cracks knuckles*

it doesn’t just happen in tros, I’ve noticed, it’s just more prominent in tros since the costuming department just decided to Do That and destroy us all, it actually also happens in TLJ

specifically, with the flight suit which is really obvious in the briefing sequence. look how far down he has it unbuttoned (clasped?) by the fourth gif.

he’s also one of the few pilots in the meeting who have even undone the collars on their suits, let alone that far

personally, I’m thinking he isn’t a huge fan of having a collar around his neck like that - he can deal with it, obviously, since that’s how flight suits are designed, but he’d prefer to have some breathing room, y’know (which is why I reckon he is seen in his officer’s uniform all of one time)

my secondary headcanon is that it’s a stress tick, maybe? the more stressed out he gets in tros, the further the neckline dips. not an exact science here, but it certainly seems that way

other, less depressing headcanons include the fact that ajan kloss is just humid as all shit and he can’t stand that
