Prompt: Power couple!DeanCas. Preferably in law enforcement, at university, or any kind of occupation with a high profile
To an outsider, Casâ expression might be mistaken for stoic solemnity. Dean knows his husband, though, knows heâs furious. As soon as the nurse is done taking Deanâs vitals and leaves, Cas is gonna tear into him.
Thatâs why, as soon as sheâs crossed the threshold, Dean is talking. âYou know, most people would be honored to be married to a hero.â
âWhat hero?â Cas says, voice that deadly calm it always gets when heâs righteously pissed. âAll I see is an idiot who thinks his body can absorb bullets.â
Dean knows heâs gonna regret saying this, but, âTechnically-â
âYou know goddamn well what I mean,â Cas snaps. âWhy are you so reckless? Why do you insist on throwing your life away in the stupidest, most irresponsibleâŠâ
He trails off, breathing sharply through his nose. Dean frowns, feeling a little wounded (in more ways that the obvious). âCas, I did it to save that kidâs life.â
âThat kid was a criminal,â Cas reminds him, but thereâs no real heat behind it.
âAnd he lives on to make terrible decisions for another day, thanks to me.â Dean holds out his hand, knowing that despite how pissed he is Cas isnât gonna refuse him this small comfort. Cas sighs before taking it, intertwining their fingers. âAnd for the record, the media is calling me a hero.â
Cas snorts, squeezing Deanâs hand tight. âOne newscaster called you âheroicâ. One.â
âI think I saw âdashingâ somewhere, too. And âfearlessâ. âDevastatingly handsomeâ has definitely been thrown around but thatâs nothing new-â
âDean,â Cas cuts him off gently. Dean snaps his mouth shut, feeling chastened. âJust⊠promise me youâll be more careful next time.â
Itâs not a promise Dean can keep. They both know that, because theyâve both been in this position more times than either cares to count. Dean probably more, because Cas is right. He is reckless. But when you work for the FBI, risking your life kind of comes with the territory.Â
âYou knew what you were getting into when you married me,â Dean jokes weakly.
Cas purses his lips, but doesnât argue. He raises Deanâs hand, kisses the back of it softly.Â
