Big Queensland kauri in Albert park, Auckland New Zealand. Not as big as the domain or Pah trees but as far as they go in NZ amongst the biggest. On par with the western park ag.robusta in size. Super cool almost outgrowing the spot it was planted with path either side of it. A guy yelled out “don’t worry it’s not going to fall down!!” While I was photographing, to which I replied “yeah looks pretty sturdy” and we laughed, funny late night interactions bro probs thought I was trippin’ the way I was oogling the kauri. Cool tree.

Two Queensland Kauri near sanctuary mahi whenua in Auckland, New Zealand. These two are 25 years old. And are in the chopping block as development on the site threatens these two Kauri. Trees on site are in danger of being cut down as the land is currently disputed in supreme court, disputed by the sanctuary community garden. I fear in all likelihood that the development with continue and the trees on this site will all be cut down. second tree looks a bit funny as its covered in a climbing vine of some kind.

Queensland Kauri in Alberon reserve, Auckland New Zealand. One of two of this species in the park. This one is in an area of the park more accessible next to a bizarrely planted cycad, see below, which I think might be (Encephalartos altensteinii) unsure I don’t know cycads. Tree is off into the bush a bit but easier to visit than its partner in the park. The tree has rat traps and possum traps close around it.

Big Queensland Kauri, HUGE! sits next to the very big carpark Norfolk in the Pah Homestead/Monte Cecilia Park in Auckland, NZ, next to what is now a Carpark but once a paddock! The bellow gif compares a aerial photo from the 1930's with 2026 google maps. it is not perfectly lined up but gives an impression. you can see the Kauri on the far right with the Norfolk Araucaria from the previous post right next to it on the left. (click this link to the last post to see comparison featuring that tree) this photo is older than the last comparison, from that post and remarkably both trees have grown a lot but were massive by their own right 96 years ago!!

Cool Queensland kauri at the Pah homestead, Auckland, New Zealand. Only relatively new planting when compared to the other two giant Queensland kauri in the park, a pretty old tree by the looks. It’s cool to see the comparison morphologically between juvenile and adult trees, always a suprise how much bigger the leafs are on smaller trees. I wish it was more common to plant more than one of a species at different intervals of time. I find it so valuable walking between trees of different ages.

Massive Queensland Kauri in Pah Homestead/Monte Cecilia Park in Auckland, New Zealand. There are two individuals, that I know of, in the park that are of this size and age. Both are the biggest I know of in Auckland, second to or shared in title with the two in the domain. I would guess these two are a little bigger. I expect the two in this park must have been planted around the same time. Its hard to tell which of the two is bigger, this post features the tree in the middle of the park the other located next to the carpark will have its own post later. Amazing tree, In the last image the sheer scale, spiraling branches going on forever. At a guess this tree might be slightly shorter than its peer, but has the fullest canopy. I really like what shes doing with the massive branch about half way down its got some crazy reach on it, see the video. astonishing!!
