Wait wait, so if he was about to cry when he said that... Sorry if this is a little dark, but.. Does he WANT to die???? D:
I don’t want to assume anything since he’s not my character, but I think it’s safe to say he’s feeling a wide variety of things, such as frustration, regret, despair, anger, helplessness, and sorrow. And these feelings probably don’t come one at a time, either - they overlap, change frequently, and come in waves. And it probably gets worse after each reset. He’s seen things that can’t be unseen. He’s watched everyone he loves die. He’s watched Papyrus die. He’s had to suffer through this for half a thousand resets.
Who knows if Geno can even cry anymore?
I think that there’s a lot that he wants. Him wanting to die wouldn’t surprise me.
Now mind you, he’s talked about LETTING himself die quite a few times (in Aftertale). He mentioned he was going to let himself die the first time Chara killed him (before he left the timeline completely) and he mentioned letting himself die before he unveiled to Sans that he had one more final plan. And there’s a big difference between letting himself die and wanting to die.
To me, Geno letting himself die is a tactical maneuver. A means to an end. After all he is smart, manipulative, and does what he needs to meet his goals.
To me, it’s so different. It’s him admitting there’s nothing more he can do. It’s him saying that he’s tired. That he just wants peace. That he gives up.
So think of that panel in this way, if you like:
In that moment, Geno is probably on the cusp of let and want.
(also these are just my thoughts, I could be wrong, but I love speculating)
