Like many people, I don't always feel at home in this society. I feel that the way people perceive me and, as a reflection, how I perceive myself, is too constructed by norms and expectations. As an effect, I tend to take distance from my surroundings, while keep longing for a place that I can call home. Because identity is not the outcome of an atomistic self, but always emerge through interaction with the surroundings, I feel like I've lost a piece of myself. The goal of my art is to create my own surroundings, the constituting material of a place I can call home. With what I make, I try to find identity without being too reliant on external norms, roles and expectations. I create my surroundings, and my surroundings create me.
