Honestly, the biggest question I would have for the OBC of Newsies is how they came up with their characters' names. Cause most of the ensemble made up their own names and I just really wanna know the stories behind them.
On the one hand, you've got Mike Faist and Brendon Stimson (Morris and Oscar) who named their newsie characters Mike and Ike. And I can easily imagine how that decision was made, it's a funny joke. It makes sense.
But then there's just Corey Hummerston (I think) who named his character with approximately three lines freaking Josephino Jorgelino de la Guerra aka JoJo. He was raised by nuns in a cathedral in Harlem. Also, he's a furry. Like what? Sir? WHERE DID THIS COME FROM AND WHY????
And then there's just Tommy Bracco who named his character Tommy Boy.
Like what was going on in rehearsals? When did they start naming their characters and why and which random close-to-thirty-year-old man is just out there in the world sitting on a super elaborate backstory for his character that has about four lines and a two-measure tap solo?
