Following an incident in his grandfather's old estate, Aether comes back to a small Japanese village where he and his sister spent an idyllic summer with their grandfather back when they were kids. He decides this is the perfect excuse to spend a summer reconnecting with old friends, and decides to stay in the old house. As the days go by, Aether recalls the months spent running around town and the surrounding woods with the local kids they'd quickly become friends with. And yet, in the present, something feels off in the small town - dark shadows, unsettling dreams, and darker memories that somehow had eluded Aether all these years seem to follow him wherever he goes. The longer he spends in there, the more he realizes that something had been haunting them back then, and whatever it was, it is not dead and buried yet.

Finally done with chapter three, which is actually chapter two because I’m doing a funky past / present structure with alternating chapters. We finally have a Heizou in this Aehei fic, so that’s something. The spooky things are coming soon, but first we have another kid chapter to get through where the gang will finally be all here. Looking forward to writing that and to then get to submit Aether through The Horrors.
In case anyone is catching this one only now, this is my ongoing horror fic based off the “small town where creepy things happen” vibe, heavily inspired by Gravity Falls, The Summer Hikaru Died, and Bloomtown. I have a whole Pepe Silvia style board with the backstory, and I’ve spooked myself during planning several times already. Writing horror is fun!
