This quote is found near the end of section VI of Pollock's essay. It shows her firm position against surrendering to the new practices in Art history that have taken place since the 1980s of focussing exclusively in the artist's aesthetic effects and minimizing their efforts in discussing the person and social and cultural factors that influence the conditions in which the works of arts are produce or have co-existed with. Citing as an example Ronald Pickvance's Van Gogh's exhibition and the use Manet's works in T.J. Clark'sĀ The Painting of Modern LifeĀ as a pictorial language. It introduces also her concern on discussing issues concerning gender inequality that will be presented in the next section regarding resistance of rein-scribing women artists into art history. This quote gives insights as the route she will take for her book.
