Agent Jason Savero had been prepared to do a lot of things when he woke up that morning. Face down an armed gunman? Sure. Ferret out an undercover HYDRA agent? Why not. Watch "Frozen" with his daughter for the 60th time that month? Bring it on. Playing recruiter for the new SHIELD was not an item on that list…but a part of him was flattered.
SHIELD was slowly rising from the ashes, and he - a simple agent - was being trusted with trying to find another alliance to make. But Jason would be the first person to tell you that he was not good with people. He had a dangerously touchy temper, and a superpower that made said temper exponentially more dangerous. He wasn't good at diplomacy, and he wasn't good at dealing with people.
Kids, however, were another story entirely….and that was probably why he'd been assigned this mission over everyone else.
Jason didn't stand out much at all from where he sat leaning back against the wall of the Lucky Cat Cafe. The intel he'd been given claimed that his target lived above this cafe, so he was staking it out, a glass of water in one hand, and a plate of donuts on the table on front of him. Perhaps six donuts was a bit excessive for the average person, but they were to die for, and he needed the calorie boost, anyway.
There. The boy he was looking for had just walked into the cafe with the chime of the bell. The cafe's owner - a lovely woman who'd insisted on being called 'Cass' - called out to him and waved him over, and Jason discreetly tipped up the brim of his hat with a sip of water to get a better look. This was the kid SHIELD wanted to recruit? The genius behind the new hero team, dubbed 'Big Hero 6' (it was better that some of the codenames SHIELD shelled out, that was for sure)?
Well…SHIELD was rebuilding from the ground up, and they couldn't afford to be picky.
"Hey, you're that Hamada kid, aren't you?" Jason spoke up when the boy waved at his Aunt, and began to turn for the stairs. "The one with the microbots. Ah, what was your name, what was your name…." The young man screwed up his face in a moment of mock thought, and tapped the side of his head. "Hiro, right?"
