Eve had told S.H.I.E.L.D about the young lady. Though they didn't really believe her which was understandable she insisted that they at least observe her. S.H.I.E.L.D had been busy with what seemed to be the rise of mutants and the aftermath of Thanos snapping half of the world's populations and time travel shenanigans.

A few agents scanned the area finding that Aerith regularly went to the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. They started to observe her seeing that she was acting strangely they were able to attest to the stranger's behaviour.

“Aerith! Sorry I took so long. Something came up. “ He calls out as he spots her outside  in her flower garden.  More like  he got a lecture from Angeal again. He didn’t even bother to try explain, interrupting Angeal’s lectures just tended to drag them out more.  He slipped out as soon as Angeal was done. No doubt he’ll get lectured again later after finding out he  left  straight after.  It isn’t like he has any missions today and if an urgent one comes up that he’s needed for, it won’t take him long  to get  back for it. He knows shortcuts.  He runs up  the rest of the way but stops at the edge of the garden knowing how much she dislikes her flowers being trampled.

Silently, Cloud protectively steps between Aerith and Some guy talking to her, staring him down. He can tell he has no innocent intentions.  There are plenty of other people around to ask for directions, he doesn’t need to ask her specifically if he really was asking for them.

“You can find that place in the opposite direction.” Aka get lost  before he  cuts you down.  Naturally,  with Cloud’s big sword on his back,  the man is quick to leave , rather than argue. Cloud watches him retreat, like a hawk purposely making the other man  uncomfortable until he moves out of sight.

❝ you didn't need to do that. ❞ he holds very still as she put the flowers in his mane. he resists the urge to shake them out and sits down looking up at her. ❝ I didn't know you would be coming ... I didn't get you anything. ❞ better to be honest. but as she said - it was still a little ways away. maybe he would take some gil and go into town. there must be something he can get that she'd like ...
