spending the night tracking ghosts? how fun. he takes consolation in the fact that he was in a slightly more populated area than his previous assignments, so it wasnât that scary being out by himself looking for ghosts. his client was a businessman who wanted to develop a park of some sorts in this huge piece of land right in the middle of town and decided to seek jinyoungâs help in ridding the park of any sort of supernatural presence. exorcising the ghosts themselves wasnât hard but chasing them was. jinyoung hardly has any stamina or agility to keep up with them.
heâs kind of glad that his âshaman sensesâ has become even more refined over many years of doing his job. he can pinpoint the location of ghosts with more accuracy now, as opposed to just having a vague sense of which direction the ghost had gone to. when he realizes that the ghost that he had been chasing had wandered off towards the streets where there were more shops and more people, he broke out into a full-out sprint. if this ghost was like any of the other ghosts that he had encountered before, it was going to wreak havoc.
running at full-force, jinyoung fails to spot another pedestrian as he turns a corner, inevitably crashing into her rather unceremoniously. âoh my goodness â iâm so sorry, are you okay?â he speaks really quickly, wanting to make sure that the girl was fine so that he can carry on with his tracking before the ghost wanders out of his radar.

â: Our muses argue over which Christmas movie to watch.Â
-They have to watch Love Actually.Â
Itâs a classic, Sana mentions. The cast is outstanding and all very talented. There are ten different stories that are all interconnected at the end. The themes vary from story to story but the resolution leaves viewers feeling satisfied and warm inside. Isnât that the point of the holidays?
-Well, Hari interjects. Nightmare Before Christmas is even more of a classic.
The movie does not lack in romance even if thereâs only one story as opposed to ten. The musical score of the movie is also astounding. As far as unconventional Christmas stories goes, this is one of the best. It isnât every day the dark fantasy genre can be heartwarming.
-The animation is outdated and creepy! Weâre watching Love Actually, unnie.
-Weâre not.
-We are.
-We are not.
A DVD is popped into the player. The two of them relax back into the couchâ one is comfier than the other, of course. Hari sips on her drink when the scene opens and reveals an airport setting.Â
â: My muse calls your muse while drunk on eggnog.
Heâs holding the phone in one hand and pinching the bridge of his nose with the other. Sanaâs a cute kid; he wouldnât want anyone to think otherwise, but this is a bit⊠Well, itâs hilarious, really. Heâs having to prevent himself from giggling loudly for fear that in her current state sheâll start sobbing at him.
Heâs not really sure how she got a hold of some alcoholic eggnog or why she decided it was a good idea to drink it, but he does know that sheâs apparently a very weird drunk. Sheâs also the weepy type because so far in this five minute long call sheâs already started and stopped crying three times. Sheâs sad and worried about him, and then sheâs talking about Christmas gifts and robotics and Changsub and something else that she likes and then sheâs back to sobbing because of what happened to Shiru and then she found the cookies and sheâs got another glass of eggnog! Right now, sheâs just chattering about robotics- something Hansol far from understands.
âAhh~ Really?â Heâs just trying to sound interested. He wouldnât want he to suddenly start crying and call him mean. This would be an awfully stupid way to lose her trust. âThat sounds interesting⊠Youâll have to show me sometimeâŠâ He hums just a little as she continues on. Sheâs really like an excited child like this. Itâs a bit refreshing.
And then sheâs back to crying. Something about that Slaughter House and Jonghyun and what happened. Hansol stomach turns just a little. He pulls the sleeves of his hoodie down out of habit. His expression doesnât quite drop- he wonât let it, but it at least falters.
âSanaâŠâ His voice is softer. âItâs alright⊠Donât worry about it. Those things are over now. Besides, I was there to protect you then and would be if it ever happened again. Not that it will! It wonât!â He mentally curses at himself⊠And⊠Then sheâs on another topic.
She canât find her phone.
He sighs just a little- smile returning. At least sheâs not staying on the serious topics for too long. He shakes his head just a little.
âItâs in your hand, Sana.  Ah~ But maybe you should go to sleep? We can talk tomorrow again. You can come over and Iâll make some dinner or somethingâŠâ
The child in him lights up under layers of indifference, subtle movements that are masking around as curiosity and nothing more than that. His eyes flicker towards the nearest window, little freckles of white reflecting in a pallid wash of mahogany eyes. âI can already feel myself turning into a vegetable,â he grumbles to no one in particular, his thoughts obviously somewhere other than the moment heâs in.Itâs five years old and dragging a garbage bag around because he thought it would get him farther than a sled ever would. His father holding him towards the sky so he could get closer to the falling flakes, how he felt weightless and invincible without ground underneath him.Itâs the crack of a gunshot in the winter air, lost adolescence turning the frozen asphalt to the color of cabernet. The snow outside of his window while heâs rummaging around his old apartment for cash. Snow catching in his hair as he waits for a train to save him from that god-forsaken city he ruined himself in.Jonghyun thinks itâs fitting for this time of year to be a physical weakness now, that whenever winter comes around heâs not only burdened by the memories it brings but the way it slowly creeps in and shuts down his system like penance for it all, but he never thought there would be a time in his adulthood where he would look out and see it as a different person. Like heâs watching through the eyes of a stranger, with their life at a standstill. Today it is a change in weather, a promise of dormant excitement  now permeating the air, humming like electricity between the corridors they all wander together.Today he thinks of the snow as a renewal, even through his stiffening joints.âMake an angel for me, will you?â
âWhat?â Sanghyuk looks bewildered whenshe suddenly offers him her scarf. His eyes grow unusually-wide before he turnsaway, his cheeks flushed either from the cold or embarrassment. âOh, you donâtneed to do that. Itâs not that cold. Really!â He insists, but as he reaches upto brush away a fine layer of snow out of his hair she catches sight of hisobnoxiously-red fingers.
He realizes this quickly, panicflashing across his face before he shoves his hands into his pockets. They bothshare a look, Sanghyukâs covered with shame before he hangs his head. A handreluctantly reaches out for the scarf and it falls gently into his grasp. Teethclenched, he sucks in air as he begins to wrap the cloth around himself, butpauses suddenly when a brilliant idea seeps into his thoughts. He can feel hercurious gaze on him; it makes him grin before he leans down so their faces areclose together until their cheeks are almost touching.
âI canât just leave you without ascarf on my expense, now can I?â Heâs grinning, pleased with himself as hepromptly wraps the scarf around them both, but now heâs stuck awkwardly walkingaround with his knees bent or leaning to the side. Sanghyuk uses this chance tolink his arm with hers under the pretense of balance. âHm. I donât think I plannedthis out very well,â he thought aloud, eyebrows furrowed.

By now, Jonghyun is convinced tonight was a specially made hell just for him. As if the incident with Taekwoon wasnât enough to drag him through hell and back he was now in the grasps of a terrible little girl that he scarily wanted to hurt. As a typically gentle soul, Jonghyun doesnât really want to hurt anyone. But the things this girl has made him do thus far, and is continuing on making him do has crossed far too many lines Jonghyun didnât even know he had. After proving that mental screaming and being doused in holy water wasnât going to do the trick, Jonghyunâs hopes were getting rapidly smaller.
Heâs in the ballroom now. He doesnât quite understand how he had gotten there. He was so tired, all he wanted was this night to be over and to preferably not be dead. Yet as the night went on, death was sounding like a greater relief by the second. He had guiltily zoned out for a good fifteen or twenty minutes, having to shut himself off emotionally to be able to grasp the unthinkable horror that was going on. Bodies practically lined the floors-- some of them were even speared to the walls, and Jonghyun had seen one dangling from a chandelier. It was all in good luck that he wasnât squeamish at all.Â
The truth behind the lethality of his mutation was being put on display, which was something Jonghyun didnât want to do ever. He knew that any sort of glass would break, and was mildly surprised by the cracks that started to form in the walls, but to see the people he-- she-- inflicted writhe with pain made Jonghyun want to die himself. His own ears were ringing by now, his throat was starting to feel raw with use. Heâs always experimented with his powers, but heâs never gone so far as to hurt people and see actual blood drip from their ears. With Taekwoon earlier that night it was different, but now he was just a vessel for a child with malice intentions.
The little girl was hiding in the shadows, of course. This time she was closer and was chilling in Jonghyunâs peripheral vision. Â She had a stupid little grin on her face, and Jonghyun wanted nothing more than for someone to just come and kick her. Or help him-- whichever came first, both would be just fine with him.Â
His head suddenly jerks as she presumably notices something-- someone-- and Jonghyun immediately starts to struggle. He canât go through this again. He canât hurt another innocent person just there to stay alive like he was. He couldnât--Â
She was small, and looked visibly frazzled ( who wouldnât be? ). Long hair, a round face, and Jonghyun had definitely seen her around the foundation at some point. She was young, or at least younger than him, and that made everything just a bit more frightening as the child lurking in the shadows made him advance towards her. He felt the urge, the need, to harm her as if he might possibly die without sating this hunger for violence. The Jonghyun trapped inside knew this wasnât him, but he was so mentally shot his effort for control was proving to be fruitless.
Try as he might to stop it, a hoarse laugh bubbles from his throat.Â
He takes a big gulp of the now lukewarm tea, gently setting the cup down on the saucer. A buzzing alert tone from his phone sends vibration across the table and he picks it up without hesitation. He sighs when he sees the sender of the message, rolling his eyes after taking a quick glance at the ridiculous remark sent by that preposterous woman. Typical of her to annoy him even when sheâs not physically present in front of him. How she managed to get his number in the first place was something beyond his understanding.
Itâs 5AM and as accustomed as he is to the lack of sleep, he does not appreciate having to haul himself to Seoul Station at the break of dawn.Â
Itâs that time of the year again whereby the University makes a big show of itâs âsocial awarenessâ and superior educational programme â in which they not only groom intelligent students, but also kind, gracious citizens that have a desire to give back to society â by organising a huge community involvement project that the entire student populace had to take part in. He supposes itâs not a bad thing because the world could do with more good people in it.Â
The planning committee seems to have outdone themselves this year, at least, with regards to the scale of the project. This year, it was a joint event with another University in Daejeon, which would provide sufficient manpower for numerous soup kitchens nationwide. Luckily for him, he gets assigned to a soup kitchen in Seoul, so at the very least he doesnât have to travel half way across the country unlike some of his unfortunate classmates.Â
He stifles a yawn as a committee member does a roll call before handing out instructions that he barely registers over the chattering gaggle of students.
ââ partnerâs details and soup kitchen location have been texted to you. Along with each of your assigned soup kitchens. Remember to report to me via text once youâve arrived at the location.â
Sana, he tells himself. Sana... The name sounds familiar, and he briefly shifts through his mental pile of folders in an attempt to match a face to the name. Looking up from his mobile device, he scans the crowd hoping to find an equally familiar face to match the familiar name.Â
And it works.Â
He locks eyes with a grey haired female and the memory clicks. Sana from Daybreak.Â
He wastes no time in approaching the girl with a cordial smile and a polite wave of the hand. âOh, hello Sana. From Daybreak right? I didnât know you attended University in Daejeon. It seems like weâre partners for today.â
