"Understanding Correct Rottweiler Tail Structure & Carriage" A Rottweiler tail may be carried in a half-moon or sabre fashion, it should NOT curl right over the dog’s back in a double curl, nor should it touch the back or curl to one side of the back [lateral deviation]. . The base of the tail should NOT come away from the spine at a vertical angle.  Also kinks along the tail should be penalised as they are likely to be caused by genetic defects of the spine.  The tail normally hangs down when nothing is happening but will immediately move above the horizontal when the dog is alert. .
