If there was one thing that you could say about yourself, it would be that you did your best to never go a day without smiling. You couldnât admit it to the people around, even your loving boyfriend Miyaji that you started to feel lonely and broken. Your wonderful boyfriend was one for strict routine and discipline, and you couldnât help but feel a sense that you were letting him down. You knew one of the things he loved most about you was your smile and how you do your best to make people around you have just a little bit better day. You were the person they leaned on, the person they could share everything with. If one of your friends were feeling sad? Theyâd come to you. You knew he loved this about you, but you couldnât help the feeling of isolation and the depleting feeling of always being the one to be depended on. You felt ashamed that it had even come to you feeling this way, your life wasnât all together terrible. You had your share of struggles the same as everyone else. Your boyfriend was kind to you, despite his short temper with everyone else. Your relationship with your parents wasnât the best, but you could admit it wasnât the worse.
You questioned yourself, why are you feeling this way? Where did these feelings come from? You had spent so much time in your head you didnât even realize that the very loving boyfriend you had briefly thought about was standing in front of you. You didnât even realize that you hadnât heard a basketball bounce in a couple of minutes. You were startled at that thought, how long was he standing in front of you? Waiting for him after he had informed you he was going to change and come back to walk you home was one of the longest fifteen minutes of your life. Anxiety that was threatening to overcome you was setting you on edge. You always had the crippling anxiety that almost paralyzed you in most situations. You did your best and maintaining and hiding it most days, but those off days you went out of your way to avoid your caring and trusting boyfriend. He never really said anything about it, it was this silent agreement you both had in your relationship. If you were honest with yourself ever since you had Miyaji at your side, that was until you realized your feelings went deeper.
Lately thoughts of him breaking up with you or you not being good enough started flooding your mind. You bitterly admitted to yourself that you had been avoiding him this last few days. No, you couldnât help but bitterly correct yourself, youâve avoided him this last week. Had he finally gotten sick of your silent agreement? You couldnât blame him, how you every managed to catch his eye always evaded you. He was one of the starters on your schoolâs basketball team. He was hardworking, supportive and determined in everything he did. He was one that always believed hard work paid off, he himself was proof of that. While you agreed with him, you couldnât shake the paralyzing fear of failure and being abandoned once that failure had been realized.
You were too busy staring at your shoes like they were the most interesting thing youâve ever seen when you finally heard his voice. âI am sorry if I made you wait to long.â His voice sounded gruff like heâd been lecturing again. You still didnât quite meet his gaze but came close. Your eyes focusing on his chin, his shoulderâŠanything but his eyes. The more you attempted to force yourself to meet his eyes the more the tears started to form in yours. You didnât want to picture life without him, but you couldnât help but feel that he was going to abandon you at any moment now.  You didnât even realize how much you wanted him until you thought you were going to lose him. You realized you hadnât responded yet when you attempted to force a smile on your face. âItâs no worries. I donât mind waiting.â You were meet with only silence but you felt him take your hand in his. He gently tugged you in the direction of home; you followed him but kept your eyes on your shoes.
The silence was thick between the two of you, you convinced yourself that he was going to wait until you were home. The walk home seemed to last a year, the closer to home the more isolated you felt. When you heard, him speak next you were standing in front of your home. âF/nâŠI think we-â âPlease donât leave me.â Your voice came out as a squeak, like you hadnât spoken in years. You felt more than saw him tense at your words. âDidâŠyou think I was going to break up with you?â You started to shake slightly, you were tired of holding back so many emotions, so many feelings. You were ready to give up, you couldnât keep it up anymore. You couldnât help but let out a sound of surprise when you felt him pull you to his chest. His embrace almost crushing you against him, yet still gentle in his own way. âI donât want to lose you. I donât know whatâs going on but I want you to know you can depend on me. I am not going anywhere.â You relaxed in his arms, not even realizing how tense you were against him. Slowly one tear after another started falling from your eyes, you were crying before you could stop yourself. You felt him rub the small of your back, attempting to comfort you. You started pouring out apologizes, you apologized for everythingâŠeven things you didnât need to apologize for. He gently started pulling you into your home, sitting you down on your couch. He gently took off your shoes and sat beside you, pulling you close to him again. âIâll always be here for you, I am not going anywhere.â You closed your eyes and let yourself feel his chest rise and fall, you started to feel yourself drift off to sleep. You couldnât be a hundred percent sure, but you could swear you heard him whisper out words that made your heart jump. âDepend on me f/nâŠI love you.â
