it's kind of misleading to say "season" for MECHFIA when some of them might only be like, 5 episodes, but it's hard to find another word that gets the meaning across w/ an animated series 🤔 cycle??? arc???

some very rough initial thoughts about Logan's brain damage (and some minor spoilers, but i mean, most of yall will probably have forgotten by the time we get to Season 1 lol)
so Season 1, The Mind, is when Logan gets Mind Controlled, and it causes brain damage. he actually gets lucky and avoids total brain failure (like the majority of Mind Controlled cult members did, due to how long they were under), but the left hemisphere of his brain still sustains damage, impacting the language center and giving him Wernicke's Aphasia.
(highly recommend you watch the video below too; it's a good example of someone with it, and i really like some of the observations/insights in the comments.)
he will be able to make significant progress with his aphasia (and that's a realistic thing to depict; it's just not going to ever go away entirely, since most people will always have remnants of their aphasia), but all of Season 2, The Tower, will highlight his struggles with the condition, the ableism he encounters [looks directly at David using this as another way to try and invalidate Logan's autonomy], the internalized ableism he deals with, and the positive aspects of his condition -- inspired by what Sharon Stone had to say about her aphasia, and also this bit i read about Gabby Gifford's case.
something something music / art as the universal means of expression...there's a thought there i'm still developing lol
[looks at my episode planning] man i really. uh. have something for Logan getting assaulted in gardens huh. just something about that Garden of Eve imagery being associated with desecration. purity and divinity twisted in depravity and brutality. especially when it comes at the cost of something, like knowledge, or trust. ...anyways...
how MECHFIA characters call u stupid
Logan: You're a fucking idiot.
David: No, by all means, tell me why you thought this was a good idea. I would love to know this type of reasoning that you call 'logic'.
Kalstio: You're a bit silly, aren't you? Just a goofy little clown. Don't worry, I like clowns! When they're actually funny, of course.
Derek: [fingers digging into his temples] No, no, it's fine. I just suddenly have a massive headache. No reason.
Marian: Can you repeat that? But this time, do it slowly and really think about the words you are saying.
David: You really are just like your mother.
Logan: I just told you that I was dating someone.
David, remembering how Lilian cheated on him: Exactly.
Logan: 👁️👄👁️????????????

[reading KOG discourse recap] god i can't wait for the absolute Hell on Earth that will be MECHFIA discourse
i am going to get this cloak blowing animation right even if it fucking kills me
just realized that the two most stable, arguably healthiest relationships Logan has in MECHFIA are with two mentor figures that use alternative communication (Catina uses an AAC device, Zone 5 leader is selective mute and uses humming + instruments). which really speaks volumes as to how much Logan ACTUALLY wants an authority figure he can trust and learn from, and how much words tend to make things harder for Logan because he's constantly saying the wrong things and gets frustrated trying to find the right words, and that's not even counting his aphasia which makes it even MORE difficult.
yet Logan is surrounded by verbal people who expect relationships based in verbal communication. they're not wrong for that, that's how they grew up. it's just sad because, Logan is the odd one out and he's painfully aware of that, so he expects himself to adjust and not the other way around. he gets used to using his own AAC device (that he made himself and is very proud of) and practices scripted responses and makes a lot of progress in his speech therapy, so he can feel more normal and have conversations easier and communicate with his loved ones easier. that's not a bad thing.
and obviously i'm not saying these relationships are turbulent and unhealthy because of their communication styles. there's way way way way WAY more to it.
but it's just so. bittersweet to catch these glimpses of Logan -- who is normally so volatile and reactive and on fire -- actually calm and quiet and not as reactive with his mentor figures (which he rarely gets to see, SORRY LOGAN). they have not only taught him how to stop and listen, but they are worth stopping and listening for.
