Zefri pondered the meaning of the word as he stared into the fireplace. What did his morals mean?
The mage sipped silently at his glass of cider as the word bounced in his head, and the recent events that had been happening. In the past few months, he had met many people not native to his own world, his own set of parameters. People like Murdo, Mischa, TEDD and so on.
They all had different opinions, that much Zefri knew and accepted, but what upset him, what scared him was what this 6 letter word meant to them.
Zefri had always believed he had done his best to live a moral life. Even before immortality, he believed in being a good person. Even if good and evil were just perspectives and had no real significance, he wanted to be good. He wanted to do the right thing.
But these people... These people and many more... They were evil, they were unimpressed by his moral standing, they mocked him for being naive, or hated him and called him self righteous, arrogant and presumptuous.
Every insult hurt, and every insult angered him. But what hurt him most was the fact that these people reacted to him like this. All Zefri ever wanted to do, all he ever did, was help people. He didn't ask for rewards, he didn't WANT rewards. Sure, he could boast and be arrogant about his deeds, but he... Well, he had to have his luxuries, didn't he?
Zefri moved from the sofa and sat on the top of the stairs leading to the first floor, staring at a mirror hanging from the wall. He wasn't selfish, it wasn't just his pride and ego that told him that. He spent so much time, so much energy into helping people. He constantly put himself in harm's way to protect people. He didn't protect "innocents", he protected people. How many times had he been impaled on a sword, burned by a spell, shot by a bullet? How many times had he forced himself to recover so he could save the lives of those he loved?
Too many times to count. Zefri knew he was making a martyr of himself, he knew he had a hero complex, but he was the most powerful arcanist alive, fact, not ego. He was immortal and had centuries of expertise and skill to use. If he didn't sacrifice his own well-being, someone else's life was being sacrificed, and it was better the mage suffered an inconvenience than a mortal died, Zefri believed.
And yet this tumblrverse and this admin had introduced him to people who chastised him, insulted him, mocked and ridiculed him for this. He didn't care that they disagreed with him, he cared that they believed it was a matter to mock and chastise. He cared that they hated him for holding onto the last shred of humanity and sanity he had left.
Zefri couldn't care less if he spent his life alone and unloved, but he cared that people could be so loveless and cold.
