I finished restoring these 2 Shakuri Kanna :)
They were in a good shape anyway so fixing them up was quite easy :D
They are quite small with an overall length of 140 mm and a width (cutting edge) of 6 and 9 mm :)
As many longterm readers might have noticed I do like small planes a lot (^-^)
I resawed some pine panels for a small project :)
Since my workbench is quite light I like to weight it down for this kind of tasks and since I always have some apple juice and milk laying around I use these most of the time :) <=I drink a lot of cocoa and try to keep these things in stock since I live alone and don’t want to need to go shopping should I fall sick :)
The panels are about 4 mm thick now :)
I restored the old adjustable spanner that featured in an earlier article :)
The jaws were chewed up so I needed to flatten them to make it useable again.
Originally I had planned to use a file but the steel is too tough and hard to be filed effectively :|
This surprised me and made me very happy because this means it is an excellent steel :3
I used a cheap bench grinder to flatten the jaws and to get them parallel :)
<= the easiest way to judge your progress on a task like this is to use a nut (not the kind you should eat :D
I won’t include photos of me doing this here because I used the grinder in a way that it is not supposed to be used, meaning that I used the side of the wheel which you should not do !!!
This is because the stones are brittle and have little tensile strength so when they are spinning and you put something on their sides you are deflecting the stone slightly putting more stress on it which can lead to the stone developing cracks which can cause it to disintegrate. The reason I still did this was because I know this, respect the stones properties and act accordingly :)
Since this left an uneven edge on the bottom of the Jaws I smoothed them out using diamond files :)
I kind of did this to see how well I could grind things for industrial use :)
I’m very happy with the result (o^-^o)
The width of this spanner ranges from 5 to 24 mm :)
I like its handle a lot it feels very natural to hold it :3
I suspected it to be 30 to 40 years old but my father said it might be much older :o
I didn’t get too much done last week because I spent most of the time at work conducting my experiments :)
It is a lot of work and I spent most of the time sitting at a microscope looking at the results of my experiments :)
I had some good results but only with a narrow range of parameters also one method worked but replaced the previous problem with another one which is not that helpful (^-^;)
There are a lot of things to consider and also a lot of delays due to last minute wishes of some people and the consequences of these :|
I need to get my experiments done next week since my contract ends with the month of May (^-^;)
The deadline for handing in my thesis is on the 13. July so I will spend the following month working on it :)
I need to do some modifications to my internship report as well due to other last minute requests (>_<;)
So I will try to relax as much as possible this weekend to be strong enough to work long hours next week :D
I also need to look for a student job for the time between handing in my thesis and my graduation which will, hopefully, take place about 3 month after the deadline :)
I have some companies that I want to apply to and I also need to start writing applications to companies in Japan for the time after my graduation :)
Next week will be a big Sakura firework in Hamburg and I’m looking forward to going there :3
I wish everyone success with their experiments a great weekend and sweet dreams (^-^)/
