sam holt returns to earth
he’s interviewed by every news station ever, and he warns them of the dangers coming
he gives lance’s and hunk’s families their messages, and starts writing a proposal for the galaxy garrison to start working on defensive tech
but first, he takes a day off
he goes on a nice date with colleen, and they’re happy. it’s cute as fuck. leave me alone
on their way back, he tells colleen he has a quick errand to run
“it won’t take long, i promise”
he drives to a nearby apartment complex. fifth floor, room 509
he knocks, and adam opens it
“sam?” adam’s seen the interviews, and he’s been waiting for sam to pay him a visit. the two knew each other, and sam had come over multiple times with his son to talk to shiro
before shiro left, adam and shiro definitely shared an apartment
sam comes in, the two sit on the couch, and sam pulls out one more audio letter out of his pocket
“someone... wanted me to give you this”
adam takes it with trembling hands, his mind racing 300mph
‘sam’s alive? could that mean takashi survived?’
adam hits play on the audio letter, and hears an all-too familiar voice say his name.
tears start cascading down his cheeks as adam listens to the recording
“adam. hello, love. i’m so sorry that i wasn’t able to contact you before - i would have if i could, i promise... but, that’s not what’s really important right now. i’m alive, i didn’t die when the kerberos mission failed.
“i swear, i’m coming to earth as soon as i can. i’ll be back, hun. i miss you so much. i know i left when we were on bad terms, but... you mean everything to me. i love you so much, adam. i promise i’ll see you soon.”
i know technically with the timing this would’ve been kuron recording it but he has all of shiros memories leave me alone
adam’s trying not to full out sob when the recording finishes
he gives sam a giant hug, crying into his shoulder and thanking him again and again
adam listens to the recording once, twice, ten, fifteen times
he realizes how much he still loves shiro, and said some harsh things. justifiable, yes. but still harsh.
adam pulls back out their wedding planner, after a couple years of the book just sitting and collecting dust
he cries as he looks through it, reading shiro’s notes
a smile on his face and his eyes red and puffy, he starts to add on some to the book as well.
