To my mind, there is a huge difference between commenting on something (saying something to the effect of “this is an issue.  I’m sharing information”) which I do think is fair game for non-americans/non-whatever-nationality (bc honestly, this is my thoughts for any country’s elections) to talk about because everyone has a different perspective based on their own country’s media and a multiplicity of political narratives is important regardless (don’t only get your news from one source/one side, etc.); and someone from outside that national body saying “this is how you should vote.” Â
Like I’m sorry--that’s not something that affects you at all.  (It doesn’t help that this post that I’m vagueblogging about rn was also really ignorant of how American politics work.  And like, I am sure that the post originated with an American, under which circumstances I can just eye-roll about it being stupid and also be sure that someone else who is more politically inclined can shoot it down.)
Anyway, yeah--I think there’s a huge difference between “educating” and actually...educating.  Like I read an American political post and go “ok where are your sources,” and I know where to look for them.  I wouldn’t even begin to know how to do that for UK politics, or whatever other country.  So I keep my damn mouth shut on the subject because spreading ignorance is dangerous, and fundamentally, if it’s not my country--and even if it is if I’m not careful which a lot of people on tumblr aren’t--I will be doing just.  That.
I also think that there’s this weird mentality in the world rn where everyone’s like “America can’t tell us what to do,” which is true, but then there’s overcompensation in the “LET’S TELL AMERICA HOW TO DO THINGS” which is not actually a balance at all...
Anyway.  I’m going to stop.
This is probably incoherent, and I am going to try not to break my resolve about talking politics more than the occasional reblog on here. Â At least right now.
