Inspired by yesterday’s post by @winenshine , tonight I’m featuring the Hanky Panky. Essentially a sweet martini, made as it is with sweet vermouth instead of dry. While it calls for a wee bit of Fernet, I followed @winenshine improv, subbing fresh mint leaves in the shaker. In common with many classics this too was a hotel bar concoction. London’s Savoy to be exact. Mixed originally by Ada Coleman for the Edwardian actor Charles Hawtrey in 1903, who, by the way, mentored Nöel Coward. Hawtrey requested something novel which Coleman recounts, when he tasted it, he pronounced it the real Hanky Panky. #hankypanky #adacoleman #gin #vermouth #savoyhotel #plaguedrink #nationalcocktailday (at Major Deegan Expwy) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAJT_qWFBco/?igshid=193nzh1zdrufo
