princes and princesses are merely status symbols in glitch kingdoms. a prince will never become a king (which is little more to a queen than a Very Large Body Guard whos never more than 10 feet away from her) and a princess will never become a queen. 

while they live as luxuriously as any royalty, ultimately princes and princesses are considered the highest ranking servantbots. the oldest princes and princesses are sometimes granted the priveledge by their queen to command armies, but usually do little more than sit and look pretty. despite being high up the royalty-ladder, princes and princesses are just as quickly dismantled and replaced at any sign of rebellion as any other servant.

a very powerful queen will have several of both, often as many as she does magic-users, just to prove she can. most prince and princesses never set foot outside their castles.
