I recently heard about people leaving Youtube as a platform because content creators are getting shafted monetarily due to the algorithm or whatever.
Two content creators I heard this from, Flats and Actualol, mentioned how they’ve had videos in the past where they accepted ad placements for products where the $ payout was tied to views, and then then views bombed. This was strange because they both mentioned that their historic views for videos like this were solid.
If my “following the money” and “corporare greed” instincts are correct, I think Youtube is purposefully shafting those who take on these deals. Hear me out:
1. Youtube identifies the companies running these ad formats.
2. Youtube reaches out to these companies and says, “hey, how much you paying these content creators for X views? Pay US less, and we’ll make sure they don’t hit those views. Now you get free exposure on their platform. You don’t have to pay them”.
3. It’s a win win for the companies running ads AND Youtube. Youtube pockets all the ad $ from ALL those companies (i totally see Youtube being petty and mad at $ going to content creators instead of them) and the companies running ads get a discount on a solid outlet.
I’m 99.9% sure that’s what’s happening.
Am I wrong?
