Conspiracy theory: The fact that “chasing their own tail” is contributed distinctively to dog is anti-cat-propaganda.
Seriously, when you look around at things typically contributed to either of them, dogs always end up getting all the cute daw things - look at the happy tail wag, look how adorable they chase their tails, ahaha how funny they’re drinking out of the toilet!! Silly pupper!, missing their owners and waiting for them by the door, etc.
While cats get all the shit? Being arrogant and irrationally aggressive (as in, being cuddly one second and suddenly lashing out and scratching people), not loving their humans, etc. They are basically treated as gorgeous but cold-hearted, on the overall.
But the thing is...? Cats do most of the stuff dogs do too?? If you ever owned a cat, you have watched them be a dumbass who chases their own tail and it is hilariously cute. They too drink out of the toilet if you leave the seat up, because it’s water what do you expect. They very much miss their humans when those are gone - they seriously even have it in their gut, I always found that fascinating as a teen, approximately ten minutes before my mother would get home, her favorite tomcat would go and sit right next to the door, staring at it in anticipation until mom got in and then he’d brush against her legs.
What does anger me the most is this... pretending like all cats are aggressive at their hearts. Like they just flip from cuddly to scratching your fucking face off without a warning. That... is so not true. Cats, like every living creature, have individual personalities. And the ones aggressive... mostly tend to not be cuddly to begin with. And those who might switch from cuddly to aggressive? If you actually know them, you can very much read the signs and just stop pushing their boundaries in time, but in TV it looks like there are no signs, there is no warning, there is no personality, they just suddenly scratch people they have so far been shown to like. And that’s just fundamentally not what cats are or do?
I don’t know. I just watched my dumbass kitten chase her tail around the table-leg for like half an hour, eagerly waiting for “the evil fiend” to show its tip on the other side before launching at it, and it just... made me think of this? And how you really do mainly hear all the cutesy stereotypes being attributed to dogs.
(Yes, I am aware that there are enough cat-people who post wholesome cat pictures and people talk about adorable kittens. But grown-up cats? They’re mostly, from non-cat-owners, shoved into the “pretty but heartless” box? And? It’s? So? Untrue?)
