Put up your fists and defend yourself, or better yet be the aggressor. When adding action in your scene you need to be think about a few things first. Action scenes should pop, therefore some thought to it is helpful. #1-Consider the aftermath of the action Things and consequences happen as a result of violence An action scene should change a character or give the reader a deeper understanding of the character i. e., motivation, emotions and future actions. # 2-Study and mimic to your style Study others writers work for action scenes. Read a variety of work this will help inspire you to try a few different ways of writing a scene. Some scenes are intense with vivid description where others are fast and direct. Use a style that compliments your piece. # 3-Keep the story moving Ensure you need an action scene at that point of the story. Don't include a fight scene just for the fights sake. Ask yourself if will move the plot along? Will your readers learn anything about the character because of it? If you answer 'no' to the above don't write the action scene.
