Me three years ago : reading acotar and not finding entertaining most of the protagonists. For some reason liking Nesta but too afraid to say bc I will get judged too harshly.

Okay so. I have a theory about Tamlin, after reading A Court of Silver Flames. I’m wondering if SJM may be leading up to an actual Beauty and the Beast storyline for him. I know he’s an asshole!!! But especially after his help during the war, I think there may be a redemption arc for him.
I wanna start with this- a lot of people compare A Court of Thorns and Roses to Beauty and the Beast. Personally, I have always disagreed with that. It fits in some regards, sure. There’s an enchantress who curses Tamlin into a form that’s not his own (i.e. the masks), he must find a maiden to fall in love with him anyway, personal growth and transformation, etc. BUT the book fits the fairytale East of the Sun, West of the Moon MUCH better. SJM/other fans have probs addressed this already lol I’m sorry if this is repetitive. But for anyone who doesn’t know this already - it’s a Norwegian fairytale where an enchanted polar bear whisks away the youngest daughter of a woodcutter to be his bride. He bribes her to come with him by offering to shower her very poor family with riches, and so they marry. At night, he turns into a man to sleep with her - but it’s pitch black and he tells her she must never look at his face (yes, creepy, I know). One night, she lights a candle and looks anyway, like any rational person, but anyway - this prompts the troll queen, who had cursed the prince to his bear form, to take him away to her castle, where he must now wed her daughter. The girl he originally married (I’m skipping a lot of details) says nope and goes to find him at the troll castle, which is east of the sun and west of the moon. There, she challenges the troll princess for his hand and wins. This is one of my favorite fairytales, so please find a version to read if you ever get the chance, but anyway- this is what A Court of Thorns and Roses is based on, much more so than Beauty and the Beast.
The other books also follow parallels. A Court of Mist and Fury screams of Hades and Persephone. A Court of War and Ruins alludes to Snow White, although that isn't the strongest parallel (if anyone has a better idea lmk). Vassa's story strongly brings Swan Lake to mind. SOOOOO.
Maybe Tamlin is still going to play the “Beast” in a Beauty and the Beast storyline. He’s broken and alone - his palace has fallen into disrepair. He spends most of his time in his “beast” form. He believes he is unworthy of love. And MAYBE Feyre is the “enchantress” who cursed him for his arrogance and cruelty. The rose imagery in the Spring Court certainly fits the theme. And... this is more far fetched but... maybe Gwyn is Beauty? I read a lot of fantastic theories drawing parallels comparing Elain to Aurora, which do make sense; I will say though, that the rose necklace Azriel gave her immediately made me think of Beauty and the Beast. And maybe the reason SJM had him regift the rose to Gwyn was not so much to establish a competing love interest, but to plant some foreshadowing. And let's talk about parallels!! I know this is more of an allusion to the Disney interpretation rather than the original fairytale, but Gwyn... literally lives in a library! She's smart and loves books, and she is LITERALLY in a book club. And let's not forget - Gwyn is a Valkyrie/Illyrian warrior. In the fairy tale, Beauty volunteers to go to the Beast to save her father - maybe Gwyn goes to the Spring Court on a mission of her own for the Night Court, or to save someone she loves.
I know this isn't the strongest theory? It's just an idea... a vague suspicion, if you will. And I don't ship the two. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with a character just... staying single and living their life. Character development doesn't always need to be in tandem with another character. And God knows, Gwyn has lived through enough trauma. She deserves better than Tamlin. And she absolutely does NOT need to be with anyone ever (also... she might not like males!!!) But who knows? We will see.

Currently 400 pages in, and WOW. This book is FILTHY... in the best of ways, but suuuuuper sexy, tons of bodily fluids. Lots of funny and dirty banter, sexual tension left and right... people are going to have their minds blown. I think people are expecting a steamy book, but this one makes ACOMAF seem like children’s board book. Prepare to bookgasm.
