In a significant move toward industrial expansion and economic development, the Tamil Nadu government is actively exploring the creation of a new industrial estate within a 50 km radius of Chennai. This initiative comes in response to a proposal submitted by the Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association (AIEMA), aiming to allocate 1,000 acres of land for the project.

M.K. Stalin Underscores Tamil Nadu’s MSME Strength

Delivering the inaugural address at ACMEE 2025, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized the state’s strong performance in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. He revealed that Tamil Nadu ranks third in the country in terms of the number of registered MSMEs, with over 3.5 million enterprises employing 24.7 million people.

Stalin highlighted the sector's pivotal role in driving Tamil Nadu’s economy, which aims to become a $1 trillion economy. He reaffirmed his government's commitment to supporting MSME growth and development across the state.

AIEMA’s Call for Expansion

AIEMA president RSS Satish Babu, during the event, urged the state to support the setting up of a new industrial estate outside Chennai, citing severe space constraints in the existing Ambattur industrial area. He noted that this expansion would provide much-needed infrastructure for manufacturers and align with the Chief Minister’s economic vision.

Stalin assured attendees that the government “will certainly consider” the request, signaling potential green lights for the proposed industrial hub.'

CM Stalin outlined Tamil Nadu’s contributions to India’s manufacturing economy:

11.9% share in India’s manufacturing Gross Value Added (GVA)

Leading producer of motor vehicles, garments, and leather goods

Second in production of textiles, machinery, and electronics

These statistics reinforce the state’s strategic importance in India’s industrial landscape.

Increased MSME Investment

Critiquing the previous AIADMK administration, Stalin highlighted that his government had allocated Rs 6,626 crore to the MSME sector over the last three years—a significant jump from Rs 3,617.6 crore allocated during AIADMK’s term. For the current financial year alone, the allocation stands at Rs 1,918.2 crore.

This investment underscores the DMK government’s commitment to bolstering small and medium industries that are the backbone of Tamil Nadu's economy.

ACMEE 2025: Bigger and Better

The 16th edition of ACMEE 2025, a biennial engineering and manufacturing exhibition organized by AIEMA, has shown impressive growth:

Number of exhibitors increased from 435 to 468

Features 120 international brands

Expected to attract over 35,000 visitors

Projected business deals worth Rs 750 crore

The event reflects Tamil Nadu’s rising industrial prominence and the growing interest of global manufacturers and investors in the state.
