I have a lot of feelings on the soldiers' spirits in the depths.

They haven't moved on or turned into the smaller poes- instead they hold pristine weapons as the only way Link can reliably get them. Why? Maybe it's something about the strength of their spirits. Maybe it's something about loyalty to those you fight alongside, all of you willing to die to save the people. The champions are remembered and loved, but the soldiers were quickly forgotten. There was no kingdom left to mourn them. I'm very glad for the plaques Zelda left in places in tears of the kingdom- saying it was a monument to the lost soldiers.
