24 hours before EN3 and I'm McLosing my McFreaking Mind
Okay so like, there's obviously a pattern that every EN gen has been following. Let's put aside whether or not it was intentional or not. Actually no, I guess it's best to describe them as archetypes.
The Leader: This should be obvious. I guess this is more due to the idolness of Hololive but it's the person that more or less keeps the group in check lore-wise. Perhaps it's more accurate to call them the "heart." Examples being Ame in Myth, Bae in Council, and arguably Shiori in Advent
The Musical Prodigy: Again, obvious. This is the one that is the standout musical genius. Biggest example is Calli in Myth, Irys and Bae in Council (stick with me I'm coming up with something I think), and presumably Nerissa in Advent.
The Diplomat: For HoloEN specifically, there is always someone who knows multiple languages, mainly English and Japanese, for the sake of being able to communicate with HoloJP proper. Examples being Calli and Kiara in Myth, Bae and Sana in Council, and presumably the twin dogs in Advent.
The Artisan: This one is someone who has specific knowledge of a particular specialty outside of streaming. Ina from Myth (drawing), Sana (drawing) and Fauna (ASMR, writing) from Council are examples. We won't know who the specialist is in Advent.
The Specialist: I'm going to be honest this is pretty much the misc. section.
Actually writing this more I don't really think you can properly put every holo into one archetype since a lot members share a lot of similarities. Like, both Ame and Kiara can be leaders, Kiara and Calli are both diplomats, and I honestly have no idea where you can classify some members like Mumei, Gura, and Kronii?
This was a kinda silly thing to write or maybe I should wait until we see Advent debut but I'm legit too excited for anything.
hi!Ā
wake up: 9:30

today iĀ
repotted my plants
did one transcription
sent some necessary communications
iāve also been thinking a lot about my relationship with the studyblr community, and i think iāve mostly just existed on the periphery of it. i kind of went through cycles of activity and inactivity. as i was going through a lot of studyblr stuff, trying to form a direction for my summer, i was surprised by how much i missed it. i think i do want to be a part of the community, fully, as an element of my goal of acquiring some discipline this summer. seeing the productive lifestyle on other peopleās blogs that i completely neglected this school year was really motivating.Ā
so iām making a tiny re-introduction:Ā
hi, iām ace, they/them. iāll be a sophomore in college next year and iām majoring in linguistics and possibly psychology. my tentative future plans are to attend graduate school to pursue research in second language acquisition and pedagogy. i also love history and historical linguistics, especially medieval and early modern england. much ado about nothing is my favorite play, closely followed by othello (idk what my favorite book is so iām saying plays instead).Ā
iām tagging some mutuals, just to say hi! my blog is usually ded and shouting into the void is kinda awkward sometimes! feel free to ignore this, iām kinda putting you on the spot, but also if you ever want to chat/tag me in stuff/swap study and life tips/need advice, etc, you can drop me a line!Ā
(also if you see this and i didnāt tag you, you can still take me up on any of the above!)Ā

Starting to realize that I like Hololive, but I love the talents behind Hololive even more.
appblr tip: real talk about selective schools
If you want to get into selective schools and youāre a run of the mill kid (by that i mean you go to a school that doesnt routinely send students to ivy leagues/other very selective schools, and you havenāt cured cancer), hereās the damn truth: your chances are slim.Ā
I got a fucking 36 on my ACT. I was a National Merit commended student. I had an amazing gpa and took as many APs as I could (my school didnāt offer a lot, but I had A averages in all of them). I had work experience, volunteer experience, was the leader of two clubs, and had multiple awards for academic team. My teachers wrote stellar letters of recommendation. My Common App essay was fire. I was in the top 25% of every school I applied to, four of which were highly selective.Ā
I got into only one of those four selective schools, which proceeded to give me a whopping $0.00 in scholarship money and financial aid.Ā
A few other people in my class applied to Ivy Leagues and super selective schools, including the valedictorian of our class. they all got rejected (weāre all going to good schools though, donāt worry).
So if you go to like a normal high school thatās not a literal feeder to selective schools, youāre at a disadvantage. If youāre not a rich legacy, youāre at a disadvantage. If you donāt have a dramatic story or arenāt willing to spill your guts for no reason, youāre at a disadvantage.Ā
Sorry for bragging about myself. Iām not trying to talk myself up or scare you, itās just a real word of warning and an example.
If youāre still set on going to a selective school, hereās my advice:
when youāre researching schools, be ruthless in trimming your list down. youāre going to have to put in a lot more effort for a selective school application, and itās a lot easier if you donāt have a billion apps to do.
i would recommend picking only a few selective schools to apply to. donāt apply unless you can see yourself going there, and enjoying yourself in late winter of your third year. move past freshman year in your imaginings, and in your research too.
the application fees are way more expensive at selective schools (except for a few that are free if you apply for financial aid, which is free to apply for, so do that). bear this in mind when deciding to apply. do you really want to give $70 to this school that may ultimately reject you?
visit, if you can. schedule a meeting with a professor in your field. if you canāt visit, reach out to a relevant professor or the admissions office anyway. ask questions even if you already know the answers. show youāre interested. the selective school i did this for was the one that ultimately accepted me.
have safety schools, ones that are reasonable at the sticker price. when selective schools say, āwe charge $70,000/year, but thatās just the sticker price! we give out SO MUCH money!!!!!ā, theyāre lying, unless youāre really, really unable to pay anything. middle class? good fucking luck. and donāt count on scholarships, no matter what great things you did in high school, theyāre not giving them.Ā
research state schools too. everything i wanted at selective schools i have at the state school iām going to (except division iii sports. oh well). selective schools and state schools have the same things, the selective schools are just more impressive because thereās fewer people, and theyāre only appealing to top students anyway, while state schools have to appeal to everyone. donāt fall into this trap!!
ask yourself why you want to go to a selective school in the first place. think really hard about this one, and have an answer that youāre proud of. i didnāt think that hard about it, and my answer was somewhere in the realm of,Ā āiām tired of being treated like a freak for being smart, and i want to be somewhere with like-minded people so i can beĀ ābetterā than all the people who made me feel bad about myself.ā iām not proud of that. spite is not a good reason to dole out ridiculous amounts of money, and it wasnāt even worth the application process.Ā
repeat this to yourself every single day: SELECTIVE SCHOOLS ARE NOT BETTER THAN STATE SCHOOLS/COMMUNITY COLLEGES/ANYWHERE ELSE. stop idolizing them. you are not superior if you go to one, you are not inferior if you donāt (or donāt get in. see next point). chances are, if youāre willing to put in all the hard work to prepare for a selective school, and the grueling application process, youāre an amazing student, and a hardworking, intelligent, good person. any place would be lucky to have you. and if they decide theyāre not going to have you, their loss. not yours.
donāt get your hopes too high. itās a fucking crapshoot. everyone applying has basically the same qualifications, they basically draw out of a hat, and the āhatā is a complicated system which gives a lot more people jobs than drawing out of a hat. although they have about the same effectiveness.Ā
please, please, please, donāt base your concepts of self-worth on getting in somewhere selective. itās so easy to do that, itās such a simple dichotomy: if i get in, iām good, if i donāt, iām bad. No, no nononononononono. you are so much more than what some old dudes in an office decide to whittle you down to. please never hinge your happiness on other peopleās decisions.Ā
in about three weeks, iām heading off to my last choice safety school, which slowly moved up the list as the application process wore on. i couldnāt be more excited. it took me a long time to unlearn the terrible things iād told myself about where iĀ āshouldā go to college. when i finally got around to thinking about my happiness and my reasoning, i realized i had made a lot of mistakes in my thinking, as meticulously outlined above. honestly, i was an idiot, but things still worked out in the end. youāre going to do great, you are great, i promise.Ā
(iām really sorry to all the people i inadvertently insulted through this post. i just think thereās a lot of misconceptions about selective schools among high-achieving high-schoolers that need to be rectified. also iām still kind of bitter, because i obviously run on spite im sorry)
Good luck everyone!

Hey! I am looking for some ppl to take a survey for my anthropology class. I am looking at how language skill difficulty varies among native and non-native English speakers. The survey is 15 qs, almost all multiple choice, and no personal information is required. Please reblog if you can. Thanks!
