I know that it's mostly Logan who is portrayed as aro and/or ace, but I just really want to see ace Roman.
Like he will take you on the best dates, he will give you the best cuddles and he will love you as much as he can
Also consider; aro Patton. He will just be the best friend you'll ever have. Everyone expects him to be all romantic with someone, but Patton is just living his happy life and buys three dogs

Grae can you gush more about the boys and them helping the LGBTQ+ community?
Ye!
Extension of this post!
I said before that Patton gets involved with LGBTQ+ orgs, and he does it pretty publicly because the more awareness he can help raise for these orgs, the better!
Virgil, several years down the road, supports similar orgs but quietly. He does a lot of donations and sponsorship stuff to help out too
Logan lives and dies byĀ āPride Is a Protestā mantra. Heās spoken at protest rallies for LGBTQ+ rights and such, and does his best to amplify the voices of those really at the front of the rights movement.Ā
Roman gets pretty passionate about asexuality awareness and visibility, especially because of the volume of misinformed interviewers he engaged with after he first came out as ace.Ā
Logan also becomes vocal about LGBTQ+ youth and mental health concerns. His whole philosophy is basicallyĀ āI am in a position of social power and privilege where I can be safely out and vocal about these issues, so my silence would be my acceptance. And I refuse to accept this without at least trying to fight for a positive change.ā
What Iām saying is that Logan has a bit of punk to him in this AU. I mean... they all do, but Logan especially.
Also like. I know you saidĀ āthe boysā and probably meant the Core 4 but Remy? is always lowkey bursting with Pride (pun somewhat intended) at all the ways the boys embrace their own and each otherās identities
Once he was asked in an interview if he ever wished the boys were different when it came to that (namely that Logan wasnāt so vocal about queer justice issues) and he had half a mind to walk out of the interview. What he actually did was quirk an eyebrow at the interviewer and was likeĀ āhoney, if you think I wish Logan was quieter about the issues heās tackling, then youāre not listening to him in the first place.āĀ
One of Romanās songs on theĀ āUsā album tackled his internalized aphobia. He doesnāt perform it live very often because itās... emotionally challenging for him to sing. At first because it drudges up a lot of those insecurities, then later on because it reminds him of how much he used to struggle with it.
Once in an interview with all four of them together that was dealing predominantly with queer identity and music, the interviewer askedĀ āwhat advice do you wish you could go back and give to your younger selves?ā and nearly in unison, the four of them saidĀ āit gets better.ā
I know the boys are proudly out but do they ever go to pride or do like panels about their experiences? I'm sorry if you answered this before but the interaction between Logan and the young boy got me curious.
Anon, this is my favorite kind of ask so sorry if I just ramble forever about it: But!Ā
Headcanons about the boys lgbtq+ activism for the Boy Band AU
the boys go to pride every year--even before they all come out. Basically as soon as Logan comes out, they all start going to Pride every year.Ā
A couple years in, after all of them have come out, they get invited to headline some Pride Concerts, which is pretty cool and they get real excited about.Ā
Itās always some of their favorite concerts ever.Ā
Logan is the most politically vocal of the four of them, but none of them are silent on it. Logan just tends to be the most outspoken and also the most well-spoken.Ā
As they get older, years down the road, Patton gets pretty involved in nonprofit work for lgbtq+ youth (Trevor Project, GLAAD, etc.)
They definitely do Q&A pride panels sometimes. Sometimes just one of them is invited (likeĀ ātrans musician panelā inviting Patton, orĀ āace musiciansā panel inviting Roman, etc.) but sometimes all of them get invited.Ā
Logan and Roman are the most likely to attend protest marches, with Logan going the most often of the four of them. Virgil gets too anxious and nervous to attend lots of protests (though he has been to a few) and Patton usually stays with Virge if he stays out of it.Ā
Ask any of them, and aces, aros, and aroaces belong in queer spaces.Ā
Virgil has the lowest patience threshold for lgbtq+ ignorance. Logan is patient as long as the person is willing to actually listen and learn.Ā
Pride is Romanās favorite time of year, tbh. Heās always Full Tilt Extra with it. He spent so long hiding, and not only does he never want to go back to that, but he feels like if he can be loud and proud but also vocal about that past of repression and hiding, then other kids will see him and realize that things can get better and they wonāt always have to stay hidden.Ā
Logan reads a lot of queer theory because the best way to combat ignorance, according to Logan, is with straight facts
Remy goes to Pride with them a lot! Heās actually the first one that ties Romanās ace flag around his shoulders the first time he goes to Pride sporting ace merch and just saysĀ āknockĀ āem dead, gurlā
Roman gradually gets more vocal about his experience of being ace. Heās still never quite as vocal on queer justice issues as Logan is, but he thinks being ace is an important part of his identity that the media (especially in the beginning) kept trying to erase. So Roman just got Louder About It.Ā
I could keep going and sorry this is kind of all over the place but yeah! my boys are here, queer, and top-tier. ^u^
Exposure TherapyĀ (about ace!Roman trying to come out to his bf, Virgil) is a fic I wrote this year that is very close to my heart. I had tried to write about my experiences with internalized aphobia before, but I was afraid to really lean into it. I decided to lean all the way inĀ for Exposure Therapy, even if it meant laying bare some of the thoughts Iāve most struggled with. I think that vulnerability from a writing stand-point is why Exposure Therapy is much, much better than the other fic I wrote last year where I tried to deal with the same thing.Ā
One more detail-oriented Directorās Commentary thing I can add here is in the following lines:
āAgain.ā
Romanās room.
āI need someone who can actually love me like an adult, Roman.ā
āAgain.ā
Virgilās room.
āYouāll be alone forever if you donāt get used to it.ā
This falls during the more rapid-fire scenarios of RomanāsĀ ācoming outā. But I decided to have these rejection lines tied to their respective rooms with intention. Since Roman is generally seen as theĀ āromanticā Side, I decided to have that particular note of rejection deal specifically with the concept of love. Virgilās roomāwhere Romanās anxiety (and therefore his insecurities) would be most heightenedāforces out Romanās deepest fear about being ace: that it will alwaysĀ result in him being alone.Ā
ask for the ādirectorās commentaryā on a particular story, section of a story, or set of lines.Ā Or, send in a āstarā Ā to have me select a section Iāve been dying to talk about!
Whenever I think about my own headcanons for ace!Roman, and then I read other interpretations of ace!Roman from @today-only-happens-once or @justisaisfine, I'm always over come with the idea that... it's okay to be in love with romance.
Ever since I was a kid, I've loved romance. I love the cuddles, hugs, hand holding, soft kisses on the forehead, cheek, hands, caressing one's sleepy face, spooning chest to back to help calm one down, massaging each other's scalp to help relax... just that kind of stuff.
Everyone told me (society and family/friends) that meant that I had to have sex with that person. I wasn't allowed to just do those things with just anyone. It had to be a romantic partner because all that stuff was just build up. It wasn't important.
But it was!!! And it is!!!
Nothing makes my heart as happy as simply holding hands with my partner or cuddling with them after a long day at work for both of us or warming up their hands in my jacket sleeves because I'm naturally warm blooded.
Getting back to Roman, I love that so many of us see him like that, too. A hopeless romantic in love with love, someone who cherishes his significant other in soft actions like I listed before instead of what society would throw on him.
He's the romantic side-- he has to be sexual because sex is the truest form of love!
^^That's what I expected to see in this fandom but it isn't what I got at all.
Seeing Roman like this makes me so happy because I never thought I'd see someone like me in anything.
So anyone who has ace!Roman in their fics (not just Grae or Isa, literally everyone who has ever done it), I just want to personally thank you for not assuming a character based around romance has to like sex. My thirteen year old self thanks you-- and so does twenty nine year old me in the present.

Boy Band AU: Core 4 is LGBTQ+ (and what that whole process looks like)
Okay so long post is long but I had a Lot to Say about this.Ā
Iāll put it under a cut to spare anyone who isnāt interested.
Boy Band AU Taglist: @virgil-is-the-moodiest-mood, @withspaces, @iampengwing, @thecatchat, @bitchwannatryme
Coming Out to Each Other (the first time):
Logan and Roman know about the othersā identity since high school. But they never out one another to anyone else.
Roman is the first one that comes out to the band as āgayā. He does this a month or so after the whole āVirgil tries to resignā thing, now that theyāre getting closer. He does it offhandedly, almost. Theyāre hanging out at a beach and a cute guy runs by and asks Roman for directions and when he leaves Romanās like. āIām so freaking gay.ā
Virgilās just like. āSame, which is how I know heās out of your leagueā (teasingly) And Logan adjusts his glasses and is like āI prefer my men with a bit more sense than he did. How do you not know what ānorthā means?ā ((he was not a smart guy, just a cute one)) Meanwhile Patton, in swim trunks and a tank top sitting under the umbrella squints up at them and is like āI canāt say he was pan-dering to my tastes. [pause] Get it? Because Iām pan?ā
Loganās eye roll and Virgilās snort makes Patton grin.
And for a while, thatās all there really is to it.
But then...
But itās a little more complicated for Roman:
As far as anyone knows at first, Romanās gay. He figured that out in high school, and has never questioned it too much.
Except... around the time the demos start up, Roman starts thinking more about it.
He doesnāt even really know what it is about moving to LA to record music that makes him start thinking more complexly about it. Maybe itās because thereās a more vibrant LGBTQ+ community in LA than in his small hometown in Kansas. Or maybe its knowing heās going to be in the public spotlight a lot more soon.
But he starts realizing that he.... doesnāt really want sex.
Like, he sees a cute guy and he still thinks āheck Iām gayā but itās more about holding hands and kissing him and going on dates and long drives under the stars and falling asleep together without doing the do and---
Roman stops the train of thought there for a long time. He tries not to think about it.
Itās a lot more complicated for Patton:
Patton has always struggled with gender. He doesnāt really know the first time he started to feelĀ āNot a Girlā, but he thinks maybe it started in elementary school.Ā
He wonders if thatās what some of the abuse stemmed from.Ā
He came out for the first time shortly after his dad lost custody and he moved in with his grandma. He sobbed when he told her, and sobbed harder when grandma was likeĀ āOkay. So whatās my grandsonās actual name?ā
His grandma is the one who helped him get top surgery. (She was kind of loaded)
But he never breathed a word of it to any of the band members for a long while.Ā
Going public was a whole different ball game than coming out to one another:
Logan
Logan is actually the first one who wants decides he wants to come out publicly.Ā
Itās after their first national tour. Logan wants to come out because he feels like he did a lot of pretending in Kansas, and now that heās away from that, he would like to be able to feel more honest with himself.Ā
But when he realizes that he wants to do this, the first person he goes to is Remy.Ā
Because Logan is a strategist, and he knows--he knows--that coming out publicly will have ramifications for the band on the whole. So he goes to Remyās office and is likeĀ āI want to come out, but what kind of impact would that have on them? On the band?āĀ
And Remyās honest, yāknow? Heās likeĀ āListen, Logan. It wonāt all be good. The good news is that the bandās demographic is mostly teens and young adults, who are generally more open to these things. But there will be backlash. You will lose fans. You may gain others. And since you guys are an all-boy group... Well. People will ask. If youāre coming out for one of them.ā
Loganās likeĀ āIāll be honest with them. Iām coming out for me.ā
Remy kinda nods, sips his iced coffee, and looks at him over his shades.Ā āYouāve got my support, babe. Iām just shooting straight. Even though Iām not, on most days.āĀ
Logan then talks about it with the band. Heās very clear that heās not asking any of them to come out until/unless theyāre ready. This is just something he wants to do. But he also lays out what he talked about with Remy.
Virgilās just likeĀ āif we lose some homophobic fans, I say good riddance.ā
Loganās likeĀ āthatās a nice sentiment but know that it might actually impact record salesā
V is like.Ā ādid. i. stutter.ā
Roman is so freakingĀ proud of him. Heās on board 100%. Patton cracks a few puns but is definitely more than willing to back this play.Ā
Later that month, Logan comes out in an interview a magazine does with the band.Ā
Roman
Roman comes out (as gay) next.Ā
They lost a few fans after Logan came out, but the stronger reaction from their fanbase was one of support and they gained more fans than they lost because lgbtq+ youth kind of started looking to Lo as aĀ āhey thereās someone like meā kind of situation
Roman decided he wanted to come out because seeing thoseĀ āhey thereās someone like meā commentary from his fans reminded him of how much he would have benefitted as a kid from seeing someone like him in the public eye
He comes out during the development of their second album. Theyāre doing a concert in LA and he kicks it off withĀ āyouāre here, Iām queer, and we are ready to rock!āĀ
Patton
Patton tweeted his coming out during Pride Month.Ā
He tweets a pic of him grinning with the pansexual pride flag on his head and the captionĀ ā#PROUDdadā
Roman had helped him set up and take the picture.Ā
Virgil
Virgil comes out during a one-on-one interviewer because heās tired and annoyed(TM)
The interviewer is likeĀ āSo rumor has it that youāre dating someone. Whoās the lucky girl?ā
Virgil kinda blinks at her.
And theyāre like.Ā āIs it Taylor Swift? Are you dating Ari? Or Ms. Cabello?ā
Virgil leans forward and is like.Ā āI really think Ben Platt is more my type.ā but internally heās likeĀ āIām way too gay for thisā
And the interviewer is like.Ā āIs this youāre coming out?ā
Virgilās just like.Ā āI guess if you didnāt already know, now you do.ā
Roman Again:
After Roman realizes heās ace, too, the band is v well established.Ā
He comes out publicly as ace during a concert (heās a showman okay, all of his coming outs are during a concert)
This one is a stadium concert and theyāre doing this opening where theyāre each rising up from the stage floor with their back to the audience holding their pride flags and when Roman turns around, itās the ace pride flag on the other side of the rainbow one.Ā
Not everyone in the public reacts well to that and it does some damage to Romanās internalized aphobia but heās working on it
Patton Again:
Patton coming out as trans didnāt happen until years after the band has started
He tells the band when theyāve been working together for a little over a year and a half
And heās almost crying because heās so afraid of their reaction
But they all meet him with love and support and reassurance
Logan asks him if he wants to go public. Patton says no, not yet. They respect that.Ā
But eventually.... Patton does kind of want to.Ā
He also talks to Remy about what kind of public reaction there might be. Remy is honest with him, too. But says that heāll back whatever Patton wants to do, so long as he does it with both eyes open.
Patton comes out as trans during a concert. Instead of flags, theyāre doing cool lighting stuff where theyāve got gradient spotlights. Logan and Vās are both rainbow, Romanās got an ace one (since the rainbow part will already be represented on stage). Loganās clicks on. Then Romanās. Then Virgilās. Then Pattonās. Except its trans flag colors for Patton.
He nearly cries when he hears the crowd start chanting his name and the sea of hand hearts that shoot into the sky.Ā
Thereās some public backlash (some of which is downright cruel) but he never forgets that moment, and it helps on the bad days.
