Just Give Me A Reason
Like everything in life the once romantic, tightly-interwoven relationship she shared with George had dulled. The initial freshness and excitable nature had worn off and all that was left was a frail, ghost of an outline of what had been.
Kassie knew, deep down, that it had been inevitable, practically foreseeing the decomposition the moment they stumbled over the line that officially defined them as something more than just friends. If she was being honest she was kinda surprised they had lasted as long as they did, but now it was just sad and pathetic to believe there was anything left between them. This wasnât a relationship anymore; you could barely call them mates, much less lovers.
Officially they still lived together in the flat above his and Fredâs joke shop, but the pair would often go days without saying so much as a word to one another it was like they lived alone. Some nights Kassie wouldnât even come home and would be missing for days at a time, and when she did come back she usually didnât stay very long. Â Â At first she used to show up for her work shifts, but her spotty presence made her unreliable that someone else was hired to take her place. Her doing, she knew, but she felt like she was just cutting to the chase and, as contradictory as it sounded, running away was her way of dealing with it. If she stayed she would surely go mad from the heartache that only worsened from hanging around him.
However, by now, she was starting to realise that avoiding the confrontation that needed to happen between her and George would have to come and pass before either of them could move on. It wasnât fair to keep their relationship on this sort of life support when it had died long ago... Â Â Yet, if it was so dead how is it her heart was still able to break? It had been splintering for so long now she was sure there was nothing left to fracture, but despite that her eyes had begun to water and spill over the sides. Maybe this was just who she was now: broken. She had always been a little, but before she could sometimes forget she was, but now?
The tears continued to stream, unbroken by sobs or restless sleep, as Kassie just stared unseeing out into the night. She had curled herself up on the couch in the living room, not having shared a bed with George in months, covered by a small, thin blanket. It was then she asked herself why she kept coming back if she knew it was over. Why she didnât just stay gone. It wasnât like he noticed or cared and would probably be happy to have the place back to himself. Then he would be free to pursue other relations, ones that actually stood a chance in lasting.
She shut her eyes, fighting against the pain as images of George with someone else blossomed and bloomed behind her lids, able to imagine it with such clarity it was depressing.
George wasn't sure where the distance had come from. They used to be fine, better than fine, really. They used to be perfect. And then she'd tried to end everything, and he'd felt as if he were a useless  weight following her around. If she could end her life, and leave him behind, then did she really care for him at all like she said she did? He'd talked her out of it, sure, but what if he hadn't? What if she'd stepped off of that ledge, and everything ended right then? He often wondered how she could be so incredibly selfish in doing that to him. Had she not considered how he would feel at all? He loved her. He still loved her, but did she even feel the same way?
She was barely home. And when she was, it was never for long. He could feel that she was avoiding him, and he'd assumed it just as well given the fact that he didn't know how to face her. But not loving her was never an option. Even when he stayed in his bedroom, alone, because she wouldn't come in. Even though he never went out to find her, he was giving her space after all, it never meant that his feelings were any less genuine.
There was something different about tonight, though. He could hear her broken weeping from the bedroom and it tugged at his heart. He couldn't be sure what she felt, even now, but he knew that he didn't want to see her that way regardless. Opening the door of the bedroom, the ginger haired wizard made his way silently to the couch to stand behind her, and place his hands on her shoulders.
"I think we should talk."
The embodiment of the perfect woman, or at least what Kassie would consider as perfect, came to life in her mind. She was tall and thin, had shimmering long hair, and flawless skin that seemed to glow. Kassie watched as she laughed musically, caught up in a humourous moment with George who was also laughing. She had almost forgotten how happy he could look... The image shifted and the fictitious pair were lip locked now, gripping and groping at each other with passion sprawled between sheets. Kassie winced as her tattered heart ached and the picture changed once more. The woman was no longer thin but had a bulbous abdomen that she rubbed with affection, her face lighting up with delight as something gave her pause. She excitedly beckoned George over, grabbing his hand to place on her enlarged stomach. After a few seconds his face morphed into a look Kassie had never seen him wear before. There was so much joy in his eyes, so much love and happiness that he simply radiated it. The expression actually prompted a sob from the prophetess, wanting so much to be a part of that utter bliss but already knowing that she would never be. Not only was she incapable but she had entirely screwed up. In a dark, hard moment of weakness she had found herself at the edge of a ledge, all but taking that last step before George pulled her back. It was after that, he never looked at her the same and the small distance between them became a Grand Canyon. Inevitable, she told herself once more, because she knew that's what she did, make mistakes, and would always do so.
Someone grabbed her shoulders, abruptly pulling her back to reality and causing her to practically jump out of her skin, but the shock was quick to wear off when she saw who it was. However, her heartbeat sped up at his proclamation, at this actual interaction; she had to take a second to reclaim her bearings. Eventually she nodded, sniffing as she ran her fingers across her cheeks to wipe them free of tears. "Y-yeah," she replied in a soft whisper, recoiling slightly in on herself; she swallowed. "I guess we should..."
To this day, George couldn't be sure what had slipped into Kassie's mind that made her decide to pull away from him. He'd never imagined that she would--he'd stood up for her to his family, and look where it got him. Even with her emotions and hormones running wild, making her think that it was a good idea to take herself from him, he would have never suspected that she'd do this. In fact, he'd thought that she would need him now more than ever--and instead, she rarely came home, and when she did she stayed on the couch. He hadn't been able to figure out what it was she was after, until he'd heard her crying.
Self punishment. It made sense to him, that that was what she was doing. She was punishing herself for hurting him the way that she had--at least, that's what he'd convinced himself she was doing. And he wouldn't sit by and just let it happen anymore.
"Wanna stay in here or go to the bedroom?"
Kassie watched as he moved in front of her, her sad, deep brown eyes glued to the ginger-haired man she used to be close to as if convinced she was just conjuring this up in her head. Honestly, It wouldn't surprise her. Fabricating stories was something that occurred often within the inner-workings of her mind. But the onslaught of intense pain she felt, her damaged heart now wreathing in her chest, told her it was real. That the Ending was finally happening, the final chapter in their book. This needs to happen, she reminded herself when the urge to run came about. You owe him that much.
George asked her a question next, something trivial, to which she responded softly, "What's it matter?" The Where didn't matter. Just as long as they wrote the last pages. "Here or there..." She looked down, wanting very much to cry again.
Kassie + George: Married Life
Beach Kink || Piercley
âKass, you packed yet?â A tiresome groan answered. That was easily translated into a âNo.â George was taking Kassie someplace and he hadnât told her where. So Kassie was entirely unprepared, not knowing what to expect, and it was showing in her bag packing completion.

WR Universe Notes
Some characters on both sides who died or incapacitated in canon have returned or never died. Bellatrix Lestrange (Saved from the brink of death by Slytherin:1, 2) Barty Crouch Jr. (Senses restored by Slytherin) Fred Weasley (Saved though time-turner by George)
And because we haven't established a reason yet in-story, let's just say Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks fates were changed unintentionally as a ripple side effect of George mucking around with time.
Thanks, George.
He promised to never hurt Dina. And he's already failed in that department.
He'd completely lose it if he killed Dina.
If he killed George, he'd probably run away with Dina somewhere.Â
Either way Lee would be inconsolable.Â
