I'm currently listening to 50s/60s music (stoned) and having the time of my life

the 80s were just in style

everything about the 80s is so personal. to me

90s movies were coming out

Happily! So as unspoilery as possible: late in the last season of BCS, one character tells another this story related to the vineyards of Ampuis. It’s a very… charged… moment, and significant for being a crumb of insight into one character in particular. I won’t linger on the details, but that’s probably all the context you need. Suffice to say it’s a very exciting scene for fans of [REDACTED] and lovers of talkative, enthusiastic nerds lol. So that scene is what kicked off this story, and that elements of that conversation, the skeleton to build around.

I’ve mentioned elsewhere that I dig repetition in my writing, and 1978, Côte-Rôtie is probably the best example of that out of all my stories. I really went hard with the ouroboros (that’s a bitch to spell) -ness of it all in that one, and the final lines of this chapter get echoed later on, closing the loop.

It’s a short chapter, but the real challenge lay in making sure I kept the ending in mind, to make sure everything echoed as intended. So the beginning couldn’t start until I had a clear idea of the end, and vice versa. The final paragraph of the final chapter ended up being written mostly simultaneously as this segment. In the word document, that last paragraph just kept getting shunted down the page as the story progressed, which was something of a novelty lol. Felt like chasing something I’d eventually catch rather than writing if that makes sense.

Because Lucien is an OC and only here so that we can see the wine (taste it) through him, it gave me a chance to focus on description rather than narrative-plot-progression which was fun. A surprising amount of research was done about wine for the whole story, and a bottle or two of Viognier based wines consumed for this particular scene…to honour the process of course. No hardship.

That being said, I still plan to tell the story of stalker and the puppet. (And if I ever come up with more to add, I will but it will be more funnies than story)

After that, I was thinking of trying out some what if situations, and am open to suggestion if anyone wants to see a "what if" idea of your own!
