Page 1. --- Daughter of Caretaker Placed Crude Oil in Furnace and Explosion Ignited Her Clothing. ---- Leamington, Feb. 17.-An explosion of crude oil in the furnace of a southside Pelee Island schoolhouse caused the death of a daughter of Hooper Thomas, who acted as caretaker of the school. She fixed the wood in the furnace ready for lighting the fire on the following day, placing a quantity of crude oil thereon. Fire which remained in the furnace ignited the oil and an explosion followed, setting the child's clothing ablaze. She ran out of the building and down the road for nearly half a mile, and when found by neighbors every stitch of clothing was burned from the body. She died a few minutes later. The school building was saved.

“Morriston House Wrecked By Gas,” Toronto Globe. December 23, 1911. Page 4. ---- EXPLOSION AT RESIDENCE OF DAVID MORELOCK - TWO PERSONS BURNED. ---- (Special Despatch to The Globe.) Guelph, Dec. 22. - As a result of an explosion of acetylene gas the handsome new brick residence of Mr. David Morelock, Morriston, was partially wrecked last night, and Mrs. Morelock and Mr. Post, a representation of the manufacturers, were severely burned. The windows of the first floor of the house were completely shattered and two bricks were blown out of the kitchen wall by the force of the explosion. Mr. Post had placed a new plant in Voght’s hotel at Morriston, and set the plant previously used in that hotel up for illumination of the residence of Mr. Morelock. About 9 o’clock at night something went wrong with Mr. Morelock’s plant and he sent for Mr. Post to repair it. The latter had just entered the kitchen when the gas, which had evidently been escaping, was ignited, and an explosion which shook the whole house took place. Fortunately the building did not take fire, but Mr. Post and Mrs. Morelock were severely burned about the face and arms.
