Feldon Collibridge... a “Shrinky Dinksy.”

The beginning of the clip cut out a little, and I spoke a little too softly, so here's a transcript should you need it.

If the second method doesn't seem to be working:

Keep the direction of your player more horizontal than vertical. This helps prevent the opponents from stealing the yooyu before you reach the corner.

Use the mystery powerup. Your opponent should approach you, unsuccessfully try to steal the yooyu, and then quietly sit in the corner with you.

Goad them into an unsuccessful charge right before you reach the corner.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but it seems more successful if the opponent is trailing the perimeter before reaching the corner.

Normally, I'll just take the player there once and ignore whether or not the opponents steal it. Their AIs are written to release the ball almost immediately after acquiring it, and your player will probably pick it up and bring it back into the corner. Essentially, they'll "try, try, try again" without your interference.

I’m the type of person who’s hit by wayward balls a lot. I kinda just stand there and watch it happen. ....I don’t like sports much.
