Wake up everyone, heavy music just got good again
There seems to have been something of a resurgence in the heavy/ alternative music scene in the past 6 months. At least, there has been for me. I appreciate that I’m being very subjective here, but I see no reason to be sorry for that. I’m beginning this on the eve of my 25th birthday – aware that I’ll finish when I’ve reached that particular milestone. My taste in music hasn’t quite come full…

Top 5 Canadian Albums of 2011
I'm making my own top 5 albums of 2011 that include more then just Canadian ones, but I figured I would do one over here too. So here is my (Tara's) top 5 Canadian albums of 2011.
Honorable Mentions:
Siberia - LIGHTS Seeds - Hey Rosetta!
5. Ever After - Marianas Trench
I was moderately excited for this album because I really like Marianas Trench and Masterpiece Theatre was definitely one of my favorite albums. I listened to it on Much Music's first spin and wasn't really all that impressed. After a few listens it grew on me though. Still not as good as Masterpiece Theatre.
4. Storms - Hedley
Ok, if you know me at all, you're probably so surprised that this ranked so low on my list (yes, 4th is low when its only a 5 slot list). If you don't know me, well, let's keep the explanation short and say that Hedley has been my favorite band for 7 and a half years. I was extremely excited for Storms. I still love the CD even though it's number 4, but there were obviously CDs I liked better.
3. Holy Shit - Living With Lions
There was so much controversy over this album but it's still such a good one. Let me be 100% honest here. I didn't know who Living With Lions were until all this controversy started and then I went and downloaded this CD and thought it was awesome. I lucked out going to HMV after this was supposed to be pulled off the shelves (to remove the FACTOR stuff) and I found the last copy my store had. Definitely check this album out if you haven't already.
2. Better Off - Ten Second Epic
I wanted to make this and number one tie so bad but I decided against it. It was such a hard decision on who I wanted to go first and second and to be honest, I kind of chose at random. I've liked Ten Second Epic just about as long as I've liked Hedley (I'd say a solid 6 years for TSE). I finally got to see them for the first time in October (and when I say finally, I mean NL went through hurricanes, crazy fog/smog/volcano dust and a billion other things in order for this to happen). They put on an awesome live show and I suggest you go out and see them if you have the chance.
1. Right For Me - Brighter Brightest
First of all, who else remembers when they were MailOrderBride? Secondly, love this album. Pretty deserving of the number one spot if you ask me. I hope to meet and see these guys live sometime in the near future because they seem like awesome guys. They're shooting a video for the title track in Hamilton very soon. I'll make a post about it after this one.
So guys, what are your favorite albums of 2011? Let us know!
EDIT: I just realized that I forgot my actual favorite album released by a Canadian artist/band and I don't know how I did that. I will keep my top 5 as it is, because people have already reblogged this, but I would like to add:
GET YOUR HEART ON - SIMPLE PLAN
Before this album, I only liked a few Simple Plan songs. I heart Jet Lagged and I was like wow, this is catchy.. same with Can't Keep My Hands Off You. I listened to the album online and was stoked. I went out to buy it and I had the hardest time finding it. I did end up with it and I still listen to it now. This is definitely my favourite album of 2011.
Favorite Albums Of All Time
Graduation-Kanye West
Everything's Fine- The Summer Set
Loverboy-Brett Dennen
Confessions-Usher
Pink Friday-Nicki Minaj
