ABS steadies on weekly view while month trend improves
Domestic ABS markets have entered a calmer phase, with weekly prices holding steady even as the broader trend shows improvement. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene closed at Rs 125/kg this week, unchanged from the previous assessment. While the lack of weekly movement may appear neutral, a comparison with levels seen two weeks earlier shows a rise of about Rs 3/kg, indicating that Indian ABS prices are gradually recovering from recent softness.
The month-on-month comparison strengthens this view. Early-month prices were closer to Rs 120/kg, meaning current levels are now positioned above recent lows. This shift reflects a modest reclaim of ground rather than a sharp rebound. Over a three-month horizon, however, ABS remains below the higher territory observed last quarter, when prices were nearer Rs 130/kg. The longer-term picture therefore remains mixed, combining recovery with restraint.
Trading activity has stayed measured, with moderate volatility and no abrupt swings. The broader range continues to be defined by a lower band around Rs 120/kg and an upper reference near Rs 158/kg. At the current Rs 125/kg level, ABS sits away from the bottom of the range but still well short of prior peaks.
