positively no one asked for it but i want to write an angsty steel magnolias/doctor who AU where after losing rose and running in to donna, the doctor decides to go back two decades to 1987 to sight-see. he catches tell of a plasmavore at royal hope hospital and fate finds him in the company of thee martha jones, a precocious southern belle american exchange student doing her pre-med rotation in london, and finds himself inexplicably transfixed by how she ended up there and how refreshingly clever she is whilst trying to talk himself out of falling into old patterns after losing rose.
martha, however, despite being quick on her feet and slick at the mouth, has an auto-immune disease that limits her in more ways than one (medical advances at the time limiting her ability to some degree and also causing some irreparable damage to some extent) but is determined not to let that stop her from seeing the stars and becoming an absolute beast of a doctor to the best of her potential.
i basically have it mapped out beautifully and it's brilliant and tragic and sad with old southern women as foils that just add to the complexity of tragedy. my cup runneth over fr
