After seeing @absolem0 awesome Witch Allura fanart, it inspired me to write this. I hope you all like it! (And check out that fanart, itâs really cute and pretty!)
Title: Something Familiar
Rating: G
Series: Voltron Legendary Defender
Characters: Allura, Shiro, Keith, Lance, Hunk, and Pidge
Summary: Allura sensed something was afoot, but surely she could handle it. She was a witch after all.
Archive of Our Own
Someone was in her house. Â It was the first thought that flew into her head as she awoke. Â She groggily pulled aside the curtain of her canopy bed to check the clock on her nightstand.
It was 2 am.
Way too early to be dealing with this. Â Allura became still as she wait for another disturbance, but none came.
She pulled the dark purple covers up to her neck and lingered in their familiar scent to calm herself.
I probably just dreamt it, she thought as she shut her eyes, or it could have been a squirrel wandering by. Â Itâs hardly the first time it happened.
The warmth of her bed lured her back into sleep until she felt it again.  The magical vibration  of someone crossing over her protection wards.
Once was odd, but twice at this hour of the night hinted someone was afoot.
Allura grumbled, but forced herself to get up and let her silk sheets fall to the floor as she climbed out. Â She didnât want to deal with this, but she had no choice. Â Allura had to inspect what the cause was.
With Coran visiting his cousin, she could only concluded it was an intruder.
But a non-magical one, she thought. Â Otherwise it shouldnât have been able to get through my protection wards.
Squinting in the darkness, Allura fumbled her way to her coat rack and reached for her housecoat. Â She glanced over to to the small round bed that was set in the corner of the room and did a quick head count.
All five cats were sleeping, which meant none of them had sensed it, at least not yet.
Allura chewed her bottom lip. Â She knew they would insist on helping, but it felt wrong to awake them. Â Allura had spent the afternoon experimenting from her fatherâs spellbook and they had assisted her in doing so. Â Keith and Pidge had been quite vital to put out that small fire out, and Allura didnât know what they would have done if Hunk hadnât grabbed the silver tray to block that sleeping spell from hitting her. Â
It had been a long afternoon, and they had all been exhausted by the end of it. Â Lance in particular had demanded a bath as payment and an extra fluffy pillow to sleep on.
Allura drummed her fingers against her elbow and then nodded to herself.
The intruder isnât magical, she silently argued. Â I should be able to handle it alone without disturbing them.
Allura stole one more glance to them before she crept into the room and exited into the dark hallway. Â She reached for the small lantern that sat on the side table and flicked her fingers to light it.
Quietly, Allura picked up the hem of her nightgown and carefully carried the lantern as she walked. Â The light from her lantern flickered as she went by the family portraits and almost seemed to make the eyes of her fatherâs shine. Â She gave a wistful smile, but didnât pause as she kept on going.
Noises were coming from the dining room. Â Someone with a deep male voice cursed and was swiftly followed by the sound of clanking of metal and glass. Â Allura swallowed and discreetly peeked inside.
A young man wearing dark clothes, gloves and a mask was raiding her china cabinet. Â She cringed as she watched him pick up a candle stick holder, examine it and then toss it into the large sack he held.
Alluraâs grip tightened on her lantern. Â So, it was a robber? Â That hadnât been as bad as she had been fearing, but it was hardly something to take lightly.
Allura straightened her posture before she entered and cleared her throat.
The robber halted immediately and whirled around.
âI will give one, and only one warning,â Allura announced in a firm tone, âput donât my belongings and leave my home this instant.â
The robber grumbled as he reached inside his coat. Â âLady, be smart and turn right around as if you didnât see me.â
âAnd let you rob me?â Allura said as she set the lantern on top of a nearby shelf and crossed her arms. Â âIâm hardly the type of person to allow that!â
The man shook his head sadly as he set the bag down. Â âLook, girlie, we both know you are currently the only person in this whole manor.â
Allura raised an eyebrow. Â âSo, what?â
Part of her felt tempted to insist that wasnât even close to being true, but she kept her mouth shut.
âSssoo,â the robber continued with his hand still in his coat, âIâm a lot bigger than you, and it wouldnât take much to win against you in a fight.â Â
His hidden hand jumped back out with fingers curled around the handle of a large knife. Â He chuckled as the lanternâs flame bounced off the blade. Â Alluraâs body stiffened.
She had been expecting him to be armed, but she didnât imagine him to be carrying such a large knife.
âUnless you want me to cut at that pretty face of yours,â the robber continued as he pointed to the china cabinet, â come here and tell me which of this junk is the most valuable.â
Allura felt sweat drip from her brow. Â What should she do? Â Attack with a spell? Â But she needed a few minutes to cast, and the robber would no doubt strike before she could finish. Â She glanced around the room. Â Perhaps she could hit with something-
âDonât try anything funny,â the robber said as he stepped forward and seized her wrist. Â âI got my eyes on you.â
Allura fumed as she squirmed and winced as he gave her a tight squeeze. Â âUnhand me,â she demanded.
âYouâre in no position to give orders,â the robber continued. Â âNow just-â
A meow cut him off.
Both Allura and the robber turned their hands as a large black cat hopped up onto the table. Â The streaks of white in his fur almost seemed to shimmer as the cat arched his back and hissed at the robber.
âShiro,â Allura whispered.
The robber blinked and then laughed. Â âAw, cute, your little kitty is trying to scare me off.â Â
He let go of Allura as he approached the cat and waved the tip of the knife in the catâs face.
âWhat you going to do, little fella?â He snickered. Â âHiss at me to death-â
Shiro jumped off the table, transformed into a lion in midair and knocked the table over as he landed on the floor.
The robber was still as a statue as the knife slipped from his fingers and onto the floor. Â Allura didnât waste a moment to seize it as the robber stared bewildered at the creature before him.
âBut..but...how,â he stammered, but wasnât given a moment to question before Shiro roared at him.
The robber cried out before his eyes rolled into the back of his head and he collapsed onto the floor. Â Hovering over the man, Shiro growled as Allura checked his pulse.
âLooks like he fainted,â Allura said with a relieved sigh, âthat makes things easier.â
Shiroâs eyes narrowed and they stayed that way as his body morphed back into his human form wearing his black shirt and pants, but no shoes.
I really need to find away for them to keep their footwear when they transform, she thought, but tossed it aside as Shiro kneeled next to her.
âAre you hurt?â he asked, checking her over.
âIâm fine,â Allura said as she stood, âbut how did you-â
âI woke up and realized you had left the room,â Shiro explained as he crossed his arms. Â âI figured something must have been up so I went looking for you.â
âIâm glad that you did,â Allura replied with a smile, but dropped it as Shiro kept his frown.
Uh oh, he wasnât happy.
âAllura, what were you thinking?â Shiro said as he raised a hand up. Â âYou know itâs our job to take care of intruders.â
âMagical intruders,â Allura replied hotly, âbut since I didnât detect anything, I assumed I could take care of it.â Â
âDoesnât change how dangerous it was,â Shiro replied.
âI can take care of myself.â Â She placed her hands onto her hips. Â âIâm not a helpless child.â
Shiro sighed as his eyes softened. Â âI never said you were.â Â He shook his head. Â âOkay, letâs save this talk for the morning.â Â He glanced to the robber. Â âAnd we need to take care of this guy.â
âAgreed,â Allura stated as she rooted through his bag. Â âBy the looks of it, he didnât try to take any of my magical items.â
âSo, likely he has no idea he just tried to rob a witch,â Shiro stated as he picked up the guy and swung him over his shoulder. Â âIn that case, Iâm going to tie him up and just place him in front of the police station with a note attached.â
Allura frowned, but nodded. Â
She hated for Shiro to go to so much trouble, but last thing Allura needed was for any of the local law enforcement to go stomping through her home and raise unneeded questions.
âAlright,â Allura stated as she hugged herself, âand what should I do?â
âGo back to bed,â Shiro instructed with a grunt as he left the room, âoh and prepare yourself.â
Allura tilted her head. Â âFor what?â
Shiro glanced back with a smirk. Â âFor the others to be cranky you didnât wake them up for this. â
Allura rolled her eyes. Â âI believe you are exaggerating. Â Iâm sure theyâll understand just fine.â

Keith glared at her with his red cat eyes all morning. Â He glared at the foot of her bed when she awoke, as he followed her into the kitchen and was now glaring at her as she sat in her favorite chair in the study.
Allura twitched an eye and sighed as she set her cup of coffee on the side table.
âKeith,â she asked as she folded her hands into her lap, âif youâre going to be glare at me all day, would you please do it in your human form?â
Keith leapt into a nearby chair and transformed into his human form with his arms still crossed, and wearing his red shirt and black pants.
He didnât say a word as he kept glaring at her.
âI was implying for you to speak as well,â Allura said.
âWell, sorry, I donât feel much like talking when Iâm annoyed,â Keith said briskly as he leaned back into the chair.
âIâm with Keith.â
Allura jumped as Pidge appeared from behind her wearing her human form and green dress. Â Allura hadnât even realized Pidge had transformed. Â Last she had checked, the tiny cat had been sitting and surveying from the top of her bookshelf.
âWhy did you think it was a good idea to deal with an intruder by yourself?â Pidge continued as she moved to stand beside Keith.
Allura rubbed her eyes. Â âAs I explained, I thought I could handle it by myself.â
Pidge snorted. Â âYeah, it sounded like you totally had it under control by Shiroâs account.â
âGuys,â Hunk whined as he poked his head in and carried a tray full of pancakes. Â âI hate fighting this early in the morning.â
âWeâre not fighting, we are having a discussion,â Allura retorted with a huff.
âCould have fooled me,â Hunk replied as he set the tray down on one of the side tables and took a seat. Â âAlthough..they do have a point.â Â He pointed to himself. Â âIsnât it kind of our job to deal with that sort of thing?â
Allura traced her finger around the brim of her cup. Â Hunk wasnât wrong. Â It was traditionally part of a familiarâs job to act as a bodyguard when danger was afoot.
âIt is,â Allura said as she blushed, âbut you lot deal with enough trouble as is and I thought I could deal with it myself.â
Heaven knows they had encountered enough danger in the past to fill up seven books alone, especially with the threat of Haggar and Zarkon always looming over them.
âNo one is saying you canât,â Keith said in a more gentle tone, âbut youâre the one that told me weâre a team.â
Alluraâs blushed deepened. Â She had told Keith that, particularly when he had tired to fight off a werewolf all by himself.
âAlright, perhaps it was a bad call,â Allura muttered as she reached for her cup, âIâll try to be more careful in the future.â
âThatâs all we ask,â Shiro said as he stepped into the room and slumped into a chair. Â âAnd I just finished changing the locks. Â Hopefully, we donât have to worry about any future break ins.â
âThat would be nice,â Allura said as she glanced around, but then tilted her head. Â âWait...whereâs Lance?â
Shiro arched an eyebrow as he leaned forward. Â âNo idea, I figured he was with you guys.â
âAnd we thought he was with you,â Pidge said. Â âSo where-â
A slim cat dashed into the room, jumped over Keithâs chair, and hopped into the far chair in the corner.
âLance, there you are,â Allura called out and saw he was panting. Â âWhere have you been?â
Lanceâs ears twitched before he transformed. Â His blue shirt was sweat stained and mud clung to his pants. Â âUh..me...nowhere.â
Keith crossed his arms and pointed to his pants. Â âThe evidence says otherwise.â
Lance glanced down and gave a nervous smile. Â âOh..uh...just went for a walk.â
âA walk?â Allura muttered, but then her brain clicked. Â âWhere exactly?â
Lance shut his mouth as he stared up at the ceiling.  âOh...aroundâŚâ
âSuch as Mister Wardenâs yard?â Allura asked.
â....I..might have.â
Allura groaned. Â âPlease, tell me you didnât go taunt Laika again.â
Lance sheepishly rubbed his neck.  âOkayâŚ.I wonât.â
Shiro sighed as he scrubbed his face with the palm of his hand. Â âLance, how many times do we have to tell you not to tease he?.â
âShe is an easy target though,â Pidge said with a smirk.
âSheâs a dog,â Hunk replied as he squeezed his eyes shut, âtheyâre all easy targets.â
âNevertheless,â Allura replied as she set down her cup. Â âLance, I have gotten too many complaints about you from Mister Warden and itâs only going to lead to trouble.â
Lance said nothing as he drummed his fingers against his knee.
Shiro locked his gaze upon him as he rose. Â âLance, did something happen?â
âDefine âsomethingâ.â
âLance.â
Lance cleared his throat. Â âOkay, so in my defense Mister Warden should fix that loose board in his fence.â
The group went silent.
âWhy?â Pidge asked.
Lance chuckled nervously. Â âWell, because Laika might have been able to slip from her leash and chased after me.â
Allura paled. Â âAre you alright?â
Laika was a very large and energetic dog. Â She was friendly, except it wasnât hard to imagine her getting carried away and accidentally hurting Lance without meaning to.
Lance waved a hand. Â âYeah, yeah, Iâm fine, but..I canât say the same for Coranâs marigolds.â
â...What?â
Lance tugged at his shirt collar. Â âI managed to lose Laika in the garden and I last saw her digging quite happily in it.â
Allura moaned as she buried her face. Â âOh, Lance.â
âCoran, is going to kill you,â Hunk stated, âyou know that right?â
Lance sunk deeper into the chair. Â âMaybe he wonât notice?â
Shiro tugged at his arm. Â âCome on, letâs take Laika home and then try to fix the damage you caused.â
âBut I didnât do anything!â Lance argued as Shiro dragged him away. Â âLaikaâs the one digging!â
Allura shook her head as she drank her coffee. Â She had a feeling she was going to need a lot of it today.

âşspring flowers: whatâs your favourite flower/plant?
I have three actually: Rose, Mimosa and Lilac. Iâm just in love with the smell of the first two and the three are beautiful. Plus theyâre all pretty nostalgic to me.Â
âşwarm tea: whatâs your favourite tea? if you donât like tea, whatâs your favourite drink?
I donât really like tea so favourite drink would be viennese hot chocolate and orange juice. But sometimes thereâs tea that I enjoy (mostly green tea).
