He’d never received a formal education. It’s not as though he couldn’t read or write. Math wasn’t some foreign concept to him. He learned. But schooling? It just wasn’t pressed upon him as a child. And as he grew he never really felt the urge to pursue it. Never felt the urge to quote unquote ‘better himself’. Abraham had other opportunities. He had other avenues open to him to explore. Other roads – both proverbial and literal – to travel down
So he never understood why people placed such a high value on a formal education. Especially in today’s day and age, with information so readily available? Forget about it.
It was curiosity that had him auditing this class. He wouldn’t be able to say why he had chosen this particular subject. It was almost a throw a dart at a list of names type of situation. But here he was, trying to understand why someone would risk literally everything to receive a piece of paper that told the world they knew some shit.
And so far he had come up empty-handed.
“You know they have all this shit on the internet nowadays, right?” he rhetorically asked one of the nearby students. “And we’re currently on a tropical island in the middle of warm oceans. Seems like a waste being cooped up inside is all I’m saying.”
Classes had never been perfectly easy for Daisy. If it was something that she enjoyed or really wanted to learn about, she tended to do well. If it bored her, well..her mind was likely to wander. Lately though, that’s all it seemed to do. Concentration, even with things that she knew and loved, was fleeting these days. She did try, but soon enough her pencil started to tap on her desk, and pale green eyes stared blankly out the window.
Dammit.. She really needed to get it together. She didn’t need to disappoint everyone by flunking out on top of everything else.
Class ended soon enough, and the witch shuffled her way out along with the other students, blinking in the bright sun as she reached the edge of the quad. A male voice caught her attention, and she turned to look curiously at the man who had spoken. He had no collar but complained, which struck her as kinda funny for some reason.
“You’re not wrong. Why are you here then Sir, if you don’t like it?”
