BIOGRAPHY:
Laura had a normal, happy childhood growing up in Sandpoint. She did well in school, had a happy home life, and spent lots of time with her friends exploring.
It was on one of these days that a tragedy happened. Laura’s little brother Nicky was always following his sister and her friends around, wanting to play and be included, but that day they were all sick of having to babysit. He was a lot younger and it was a drag for them so Laura sent him home.
Nicky never made it home and there will never be a day Laura won’t blame herself for her brother’s disappearance. She has been weighed down heavily by the guilt of sending him home by himself that day. Maybe if she hadn’t, or if someone had gone with him, then Nicky would still be here. She should have known better and not been so selfish, despite knowing she was just a clueless kid, and feels responsible for their parents’ grief.
Part of why she became a police officer is some attempt to make up for the past.
Laura met her ex husband after college. Their relationship moved quickly, too quickly looking back, but they were in love and caught up in the rush of it. Laura liked feeling happy again. Soon, their girls were born and they were married and Laura honestly thought that was it. She’d found her happiness.
It wasn’t to last, however. They had moved too fast and burned too bright in too short a time and their love simply fizzled out, was forgotten with work and life and not really nurtured. So they divorced and Laura is civil with him when he picks the girls up for his weekends with them but she definitely does still miss him deep down, but maybe she doesn’t deserve good things.
