I finally was able to watch The Iron Giant movie. I cried, my boyfriend cried, our cat cried. And gosh, many emotive messages in such a kid's movie
“For as amazing as he is...”
“My dad didn’t used to know very much about how the mind works. Back when everything with my PTSD was starting to come to light, he thought that it was something that would just heal with time. For a long time, I felt like I couldn’t go to him because he wouldn’t understand what I was going through, even though he wanted to help me.
“Needless to say, after Sasha...” He gulps and takes a breath. “After Sasha found me on the kitchen floor and got me to the hospital, Dad realized what he was doing wrong before. He told me I didn’t wake up for hours after getting my stomach pumped, but he promised to himself and the Lord that he’d do everything he possibly could to help me if I did. I lost track of how many times he told me ‘I’m sorry,’ and ‘I love you’ after that.”
Another deep breath. “He helped me find a good therapist, and a psychiatrist. Which... I wasn’t crazy about getting medicated at first, but it works. It helps me sleep without having nightmares every night, so I’ll take it. But most importantly, I feel like I can talk to him about it more now, and he listens to every word. That’s all I could ask for.”
