Oh, so that's why MC was shocked and maybe slightly terrified in their reunion. An epiphany hit her after Caleb reminded her how he had always been like this. He had always been that cunning, protective, obsessive, possessive, if it was about her. The shock after the curtain was pulled, presenting her the true face of her beloved gege.
I saw it as MC trying to grasp the string that tied her present and the past. That one string she would draw to ease the achiness. It was sweet, warm, and bright. So saccharine, it hid the bitterness, maybe. However, after that incident, I saw how confused MC actually was. Was it all a lie? No, Caleb had never lied to her. He had always been like this. Something changed with him after his supposed death, but MC still couldn't grasp what it was.
As much as the earlier chapter was significant for MC's growth, I couldn’t help but acknowledge how the newest chapters hit harder for MC. Maybe because of the fact that she had to face her past, that one and only past she remembered for now.

will the MC remain human?
No. Or actually... no, no, it would take forever to code a separate branch where she stays human from the middle of the game onward :))) that would be insane Though... it would be a twist... with some heavy agnst on some routes... But no, MC will be made fae, a bit later into the story, and then there will be all the fun options to choose powers and what changes happened to her body. She will generally feel good about it, but I am thinking of adding some feelings of not belonging in her skin for a while... But we're still a long way from there.

things that won't/can't be changed about the MC.
hii!! while i'd love for you guys to be able to customize everything, there are some things that wouldn't make sense for the plot/are just not gonna be able to happen.
For Mage!MCs, your MC cannot and will not be advanced. (At least not at the start of the game.) There are many reasons for this, but the main one is that, in the prologue, there's a fire. Many advanced mages could find a way to extinguish the fire quickly due to how small the house was/is.
Your MC not stealing. The whole story of this IF is that you stole from the wrong person, and how could you if you don't steal? You can, however, change how you feel about stealing. But either way, you will have to steal.
Your MC not running from Casper. Again, the whole story of this IF is that you stole from his family and now you're running from him. Your MC can have moments with him, and be in love with him, but sadly, your MC will always have to run. Until a certain time period, anyway.

So I'll just tell you about my MC/OC's and their palette preference
Alex Spencer/Hunt: She enjoys red pepper flakes and some spicy foods, I'd say she has a medium tolerance for spicy things thought I feel Thomas Hunt would have a higher tolerance so he may introduce her to other seasons/sauces to build her palette
Olivia Hadley/Lahela: She has a very low tolerance and does not enjoy anything Hot while Bryce is the exact opposite!
Ellie Shepherd/Ramsey: same as Alex/Thomas for Ellie and Ethan ; Although, Ethan's favorite Hot Sauce is his own special recipe.
Daenarya/Volari: She LOVES all the spicy hotness there is. She and Mal will literally eat everything even when their mouths are burning and their eyes are tearing, they will enjoy all the goodness there is! They travel the continent in search of all the delicious foods
