What's your favorite part about writing Liree? Is there something you're really looking forward to writing about her in the future?

I. . .actually love everything about Liree. For a character I developed so carefully over such a long period of time she continues to surprise me. She is so hopeful, and this is very different from how most of my characters are. I have a tendency to write set-in-their-way realists, and Liree is a hard-won optimist. She truly believes the glass is always half full and that there is something good out of every person. So, needless to say, Liree is quite a challenge and I love that about her.
It’s really strange because it has put me in a place where I don’t have a character who is restricted with where she could be and who she will talk to, to a character who is completely open. I have had her talking with good people, bad people, saints to sinners and with each of them she seems to get along with them. She so rarely judges people, and is so willing to talk and to listen she seems to get along with the grumpiest and angriest characters simply because of her being her. (I mean come on, she made Balfour SMILE, that is worth of a freaking medal in my book) I think it’s such a different adventure and I hope, I really really hope, I am bringing across her character properly and not diminishing that bright, optimistic light in her.
But I think my absolute favorite part is the wild surges. It adds such a huge spice of surprise, of spontaneity that fits who Liree is as much as it makes writing her fun. The fact that at any moment she could turn into a squirrel, or turn some one pink, or end up making flowers fall from the sky, or the million of other things that could happen. It makes this air of ANYTHING can happen, and even in a magical world there is an almost fairytale like quality to her directly that I don’t find in most modern fantasy.
I get afraid sometimes that people I write with won’t enjoy her surges as much as I do - but, to put it plainly, Liree wouldn’t be Liree without them. They are as much a part of who she is as they are the reason I created her in the first place. She has such a surge of energy within her naturally, this sheer happiness and joy and optimism that bundles around her and can only come out in these wild events that swirl around her. And I love that, that is the absolute best part about Liree.
As for the future, I am really excited to get Liree into bigger storylines. I have a big one planned with Fen’len which will give me lots of opportunities to see Liree’s reactions in time of stress, and, more importantly, more opportunities to have wild-surges change thing around.
I really want to get her involved in more long-term situations and I am hoping to find a writer who is as open to working with Liree’s surges for all of the crazy situations it will get them into. I know it makes thing not as easy to plan, or to control, but I really want to experience a long term storyline that at any moment can be derailed because Liree might teleport them to some other place, or even some other plane, or all of the other things that can happen.
